A typical price in the en suite would be £4000 or around that figure. Included in the kitchen is a microwave, 2 fridge freezers, an oven, kettle, iron, ironing board and in mine last year just a small table, then some really uncomfy sofas. Oh the kitchens have tiny tvs in too.

The kitchens don't have TV's any more, this info isnt up to date.

Also got the booklet through the post today - would've preferred more info on the actual accommodation, instead of just pretty pictures and the story in 10 seconds of students. Hardly anything is said about the rooms, kitchens etc e.g. size, what appliances are included, not even how much it costs! (Unless I've missed something out but I've been through it twice and I can't find anything). Either way, it's only my insurance so It'll be.. after results day is it when insurance people apply for accommodation?

Nope, you need to apply for accomodation just as any Firm student would. Don't leave it until the last minute or your chances of getting your favourite accomodation will be limited.

What sort of info would you like? I live in Endcliffe at the mo and I have been doing accomodation tours so I can answer most questions.

Size wise, all rooms are quite large. Unusually big for newly built halls, and I've heard the older rooms are pretty big too.
In the new en-suite apartments you get flats of 5-13 so depending on this you get different amounts of stuff inside. Smaller flats have 1 cooker, and a breakfast bar larger onces have a table and chairs and 2 cookers. Some have one fridge, but most have 2 fridges (3 in larger flats).

Each comes with, iron, ironing board, kettle, 2 microwaves, toaster, hoover (henry style), sofas.

An en-suite endcliffe new apartment room is £97 this year, tapton is £105+, some of the stephenson stuff is considerbly cheaper.

Thank you  That's the sort of info I'd like to have seen in the book - actual facts not silly marketing images. I mean they make the book look nice but don't base the whole book around them!

When I visited, the tour guide told me that you have to go to the uni and request a TV, prove that you have a TV licence for the kitchen area and they'll provide you with a TV. Do they just not provide one at all anymore?

Hey, I was just wondering whether or not you have been privy to any information regarding Ranmoor? Their website has been updated saying that they will be available for september 2009, but not much else other than them being brand new etc.

We managed to get one. They sent around forms in October sometime about TVs and so long as you filled it in, they dropped one off for you. The idea was that you needed a communal license but one of the ladies in the Edge said that so long as at least one person had a license for a TV in their room that it covered the one in the living room too.

They do still provide them, but not in the first month and its not like they will automatically have provided them on move-in day or anything.

There isnt very much information at the moment, mainly because there is no indication as to if they will be finished on time although it is expected they will be.
The site will be smaller than endcliffe, with the new style apartments only. I think its around 1,000 beds approx.
The layout will be similar with a laundrette and bar with security in a layout like the Edge, but named 'The Ridge.'

Sounds set to be quite nice actually!

Cheers for the info )

Yea it does! Only problem is that if it is avaiable for this intake applications I'll have a big decision on me hands as to what to put first!

I think it will be. I reckon it will become quite a desired option because its got a smaller community which should have a nice feel, and people will be intrested because its newest etc.

What are you thinking of putting first at the mo?

Endcliffe and city as my second choice, but if Ranmoore is available it would be a toss up between putting it as first or second.

I'm thinking that maybe endcliffe would come first as it is slightly closer?

On the other hand I really like the look of the new housing, so I guess putting Ranmoore as my first (providing I got it) would ensure that I would get that, as opposed to endcliffe.

Haha, I'm really indecisive!

so if you had the option again, where would you chose to go? endcliffe still? it just seems so far away from anywhere!
How do go about getting an accomodation tour then? Im coming up soon and would love to see around the city accomodation.
Im staying with friends at endcliffe and have seen it before so thats all fine. Any info would be greeeatly appreciated
Thankyouu

Hmm, I'm not sure it's that far away really. On the open day I went to the students I spoke to just said it's about a 10-15 minute walk and you can get the bus if you really don't want to do that. And for nights out, you can just get a taxi and spread the cost between 4-5 people which means it will hardly cost anything!

And that "Home from Home" brochure is bloody useless! I don't care about what Eleanor, a medical student in her first year, can cook for dinner! I just want to find out the details of the accommodation and costs! :frown:
Just had a look at the accommodation info on the Sheffield website; they will be charging £103.81 per week for the new self catering accommodation at Endcliffe!!! As if £97 a week wasn't enough?! Day light robbery...

There is also info on the Ranmoor village which is available for 2009:

En-suite room rent: £4,360.02 (£103.81 per week)
Deluxe room rent: £4,712.82 (112.21 per week)

Brand new for September 2009, you can be the first to experience these quality en-suite rooms, studios and family apartments for over 1000 students. All accommodation at The Ranmoor Village is self-catering and each apartment has its own well-equipped kitchen and social space with comfortable seating and dining area. Apartments vary in size and all bedrooms are fully equipped with an en-suite shower room, wardrobe, desk and single bed. If you´re looking for extra space and increased comfort, there are also generously proportioned Deluxe rooms available in some properties that offer greater space and a larger bed. All rooms are within a short walk of all the great facilities available at The Ridge.

The price.

I know, pretty bad isn't it?

But that sort of price seems to be representative of most university owned accommodation these days. A self-catered en-suite at Nottingham is even more expensive than at Sheffield. And at places like Bristol and Exeter the accommodation costs are insane!
