Does anyone here live at Endcliffe but work at Meadowhall at the weekends? Only because I might be getting a transfer for when I go to uni and I need to see how long it'll take me to get there!

It will take a fair while to get there - about 20 mins to walk to the University tram stop, time to wait for a tram, and then about a half hour tram journey. You'd need to leave at least an hour to get there, possibly longer.

Hey, is there meant to be a section where you write about yourself so they can match make you? or am I missing something? the only thing I can spot is the "Please enter below any other information which may be relevant to your application for accommodation: " box.

There's the part where they ask what time you sleep, whether you study with background music and to choose four interests from the drop down boxes.

Niether did I.
:s-smilie: I did the form before everyone else said it didn't work, so maybe I used some rubbish old one that wasn't meant to be there and they then changed??

It accepted my UCAS number just fine, came up with all the right details and I got a confirmation email and everything afterwards... then I posted the link here and everyone else said it wasn't working. So idk! I've gone for private sector anyway so it's not like it really matters if it hasn't actually gone through, haha.

*shrug* dunno really then ha.

Have you tried logging in since then?
Can I apply for Sheffield accommodation if I intend to make it my insurance but I haven't on UCAS yet?

Anyway if the answer is yes:

I want somewhere in easy distance from the campus (I have to take two buses to college and back every day and would be glad to never have to see the inside of a bloody bus again frankly) and sort of community-spirit-ish, but preferably quite quiet and not too crowded all the time since I'm a solitary rabbit. Self-catering; don't really care about gender mix (although, hmmmm, could I handle a house full of women?); en-suite would be nice but I'm not fussed. Everywhere looks pretty new (although I like old buildings) and rather cheap (I'm used to London halls prices) so I'm not too bothered about cost either.

Suggestions?

Edit: ********, just read the site. Still, I'm getting bored of the indecision so I'll probably firm Cambridge soon if UCL doesn't bother its arse to reply to my email. Stupid Russian department.

Most people seem to be going for endcliffe which is really student orientated but in a nice village-y way and its about 20 mins walk from the main campus-its a nice walk though :p:
You could go for city accommodation which is about 10 mins walk from the campus but these aren't owned by the uni so they house students from both sheffield unis
Just saw your sig btw, M83  good choice

This isn't true, lots of the City Centre accomodation IS owned by the Uni. Eg. Brocco, Victoria Halls, Broad Lane Court. Although some of these are not open to 1st years anymore.

I agree with what littleshambles said about the bus thing, so I'm thinking city accommodation is for me. But I'm a bit worried that if they're not all owned by the uni I'm going to be stuck with loads of people that don't go to Sheffield uni. How do you know which ones are owned by the uni and which ones aren't?
I'm panicking now, everyone is so organised

The website pretty much says all. Its Opal and ones that arn't advertised on the Uni site that are private basically.

If you were placed in Opal you would be placed in flats with other Sheffield University students.

Brocco is owned by a company called IQ (as I learned from an advert that keeps popping up at the top of this forum...)

ps - although it is 'Sheffield University accredited', whatever that means

I think it only has places for University of Sheffield students. My mates there now and their certainly isn't any Hallamers...

Thanks guys  does anyone know much about victoria halls? I'm debating between that and Opal 2 as my first choice now.

Doesn't the form only let you put down "City-centre", so there's no pointing choosing which particular accommodation you prefer?
Opal 2 is several years newer than Victoria Halls, so will be nicer because of that. Rooms also a bit bigger I believe. Personally I would prefer the location to Victoria Halls though, even if it is 5 minutes further from uni. It's closer to town for nights out and shopping, which is particularly useful for food shopping, and next to Devonshire Green. However, Opal 1 is in the same location as Victoria Hall and that I would say that is better.
But as I said, I don't think you get to choose anyway. Unless Victoria Hall isn't en-suite, in which case you could hint at wanting it by not choosing en-suite.

Yeah you can't really choose which one you want as the form does literally just ask which site you would like to be at rather than blocks.

I'd say Victoria Halls is probably slightly better, but thats because I've heard alot of people from Opal moaning about it especially in terms of social life etc. That said im sure there are lots of people quite happy there
Hmm, I see you can in fact apply for Ranmoor (having looked at the accommodation form) despite what some people have been saying.

I now don't know whether to put down Endcliffe or Ranmoor as my first choice and whether or not I should put "cost", "room type" or "location" as my main priority. Ideally I would like either Endcliffe or Ranmoor self-catered ensuite so I'm not sure what would put me in the best position for getting that. I'm kind of thinking that if I put "room type" as my main priority then, if Endcliffe is over subscribed, I could end up in City-centre... Whereas if I put location as my main priority then I've got a higher chance of going to Ranmoor (assuming I put Endcliffe as my first choice) which, inadvertently, means I'll have ensuite as well.

Why they can't give you a first and second choice for self-catered accommodation I don't know, or, alternatively, just have a "student villages" option which includes both Endcliffe and Ranmoor.
