Just got feedback on why I was rejected- GCSEs and "lack of evidence of mathematical ability" apparently.

Also they gave me the figure for number of applications; "This year the University has seen a significant increase in the number of applications it has received (from 15,237 in 2008 to 17,085 in 2009), and for Chemistry the University received 573 applications for approximately 193 places."

Have people covered benzene reactions in class yet?

Xerophelistica
I should bloody hope so!

Also, thanks for that advice cpchem.

It isn't in the Edexcel syllabus in any of the modules covered so far so we haven't done it at all in class. You must be doing the exam with a different exam board.
no aromatic organic chem in edexcel!! i do cambridge chem and its like 50% of the entire A2 syllabus. either way they are aware you do edexcel so they cant really ask you questions that are too complicated on the topic...
I have an interview for wadham too!
how much studying is everybody doing for biology and physics?!
I was just wondering seeing how i do a-level maths along with chemistry, and it is reccomended by the course, if i would get any maths questions during the interview? If so would this be the general core maths, or stuff like mechanics statstics etc?

THanks
Hey, I've also got an Oxford interview for chem next week . As far as I know, then may ask simple differentiation such as e^2x or perhaps to integrate it but not much harder and often you don't get asked maths questions. What have you been revising?

Same...

Just curious, where did you get the info about there being 8-9 places..?

edit: ah I've just seen it on the SJ-chem website : )
Hah yeah, I swear it was only 8 places a few weeks and they've changed it recently. Oh well, either way it's going to be freakin hard to an offer!

just mention how you love beer curry and socalism and you will get through the physical chemistry interview
Not sure if I even want to know the answer, but what the hell, I'll ask it anyway; does anyone have any idea about how many chemistry applicants there were for New College this time? I know there are supposed to be 9 places, but I have no idea how many people are going for those few places!

(Yes, I am being overly stressy...)
Is anyone else really, really nervous?
I hope I'm not the only overly stressed out one :s-smilie:
