Ouch :frown:

Could have been far worse.....I found most of the worse condition second hand ones (so ~£6-8) as the new ones are basically £15 and they have an awful selection.
I might buy the Secondary Metabolism one.
i like titrations
Hi! I'm a second year Chemist!

Can any of you remember how long it took to get the results for supplementary subjects (quantum sup, if that makes a difference)? I'm really bad at waiting for results, but at least if I know when to expect it I might stop checking every time I feel like procrastinating! Thanks!

It won't be until at least the week after Easter.
Thanks! Guess I was a bit optimistic hoping it would be a week, like for prelims!
Finish Wednesday rather than Tuesday of 7th now thanks to them randoming up the option exams. 1 more day 'till freedom
I guess I'll probably be around then as well....bah. Stupid finals.
Hi id like to apply for chemistry at oxford, imperial, ucl, warwick n manchester. However i have no work experience. My grades are,
GCSE 7 A* 4 A and at AS level I have 4 A in maths, chem, bio and economics.
Was wondering how important work experience is for these universities?
Worthwhile chemistry work experience is practically non-existant so you'll be fine without as long as your academic record is good.
I have a friend who got in for Chemistry this year I don't think she's done any relevant work experience. As long as you're passionate for it you're in with a chance. Good luck!

Chemistry on the whole isn't very competitive; my friend got an ABB offer from Leeds i think it was, and he had CCC and predicted CCC for A2.

I applied for biology (about the same competitiveness as chem) at Imperial and UCL and i didn't mention any work experience; even though i did do 2 weeks in a pharmaceutical plant. I think that for these none oxbridge unis its mainly your grades and then that your PS demonstrates that you dont just study that really matters. For oxbridge unis the interview is more important.

I doubt that you will be rejected from a chemistry degree on the basis that you have no work experience.
r my grades good enough
You have (slightly) better grades than me, and I got in this year. Go for it.

Merton. I had some work experience at Jotun Paints' R&D Dept., which I mentioned in my PS. To be perfectly honest, it was extremely dull, fairly irrelevant and they didn't even bring it up in the interviews. You'll be fine without it, in my opinion.

My advice; try and get over 90% in your AS levels, have this mentioned in your reference, and just read around the subject.

There were three interviews, one in each discipline. They lasted about 20 minutes apiece. Organic and inorganic were solely academic, physical was largely academic, but the tutor also asked about some of my more interesting extra-curricular activities.

I don't think they set much store by them though, my best guess is that it was the academic aspects they cared most about.
Posted this in the other thread as well, before finding this one, but though this might actually contain more chemists :P Basically- does anyone have access to prelims mark schemes/ answers, as my tutors are rather less than keen on actually marking any of our papers, and I really need some help, especially with the maths ones. Its so much easier to learn when you know where you are going wrong!! Grrrrr!! Any help would be much appreciated.
Exactly what TB said. Only your tutors will have seen them.
