Physics (Salters Horners)

Hi,

I'm doing Salters Horners Physics AS level and having already revised the first two units (Higher Faster Stronger & Technology In Space), I was rather mad when my friend told me that from the Salters Horners text book, most of the information provided is not necessary and will not come up in the exams.

According to my friend, the list of 'achievements' set out at the end of each chapter states what has to be learnt and it is only this that will come up in the exam. Is this correct? I'm rather mad spending days revising lots of things that I don't even need to know.

The book is rather long and I was actually stressing how long it will take me to revise physics. So it does make sense, what would you suggest doing? And what is the best way of revising for this god damn course?

Thanks very much and thanks for your time

i have 2 text books, one of which my teacher (Richard Laird) wrote. he's the best teacher to ever teach me any subject...

they're not bulky... in fact, they're stapled together!

AS Physics (salters): http://www.heinemann.co.uk/secondary/book.aspx?n=0&d=s&s=0&skey=97&isbn=043562914X
A2 Physics (salters): http://www.heinemann.co.uk/secondary/book.aspx?n=0&d=s&s=0&skey=97&isbn=0435629131
General

these books i'd highly recommend: they've got mainly notes, practice questions, and even exam papers! worth every penny!

oh, and if you're using the one with a krusty helmet on the cover, just dump it like i did!
i mean this one: http://www.heinemann.co.uk/secondary/book.aspx?n=0&d=s&s=0&skey=97&isbn=0435628909

The edexcel website have past papers for Salters Horners.
Make sure you don't make the same mistake as I do and print off the whole set. I was thinking 'oh my god this looks so hard', later I realised they were A2 papers.

I'm such a blonde.

Thanks for that book, I will invest in one (not the one with the rusty helmet on the front, the other one, lol)

i've already printed off that little specimen book off edexcel's site. (using the college printers, mind)...

i need some, like... proper past-papers, not the specimen ones... or is this a brand new syllabus???

Correct. I did AS SH Physics, and am doing it at A2 atm.

I do have past papers, somewhere, for Unit 2 ("physics for life" afaik), about 4/5 I think, going back several years.

If there's any interest, I could scan or photocopy (on school photocopier ;o)), and post them?

Only Unit 2 I have right now, but if anyone's interested, I'm sure I can get other past papers from the prep room (for both units) and photocopy those?
Your school should have past papers though...?

My school gives us nothing.
Are they end of unit tests? I already have unit 1 and unit 2 of those.
Any others would be greatly appreciated

I'm not sure if it's the brand new one.
And lol, I printed out all the papers, not checking and the whole thing was approximately 84 pages or something.
The online materials for it are rare, trust us to be doing this course hey :P

End of unit tests?
I'm talking about exam past papers, PSA1 etc from Edexcel...

Post them if possible, I'd really like to check them out
Thanks!

CLairezay, I recommend you do what i did last year
I just look at the objectives (they have the unit at the end of each objective) and then go to that unit and make notes (remember to find meaning of the word in bold as well)
I have all the 6 units notes with diagram.. Unfortunately I deleted them : ( [I don't know why my notes are all gone].. took me 2 weeks to write them)

So Calirezay, if u have completed your notes (and if you are planning to write them out), can you send it to me? I will trade it with my A2 notes which you will need next year

I got 90/100 and 98/100 for the 2 papers in salters btw
