Has anyone had it? About 10 people in my year (out of about 40) have had it or have it at the moment...

It can make young men infertile. It's apparently most dangerous when they're about 17.

Mumps is honestly not that bad. It's like a big heavy cold and throat infection and you swell up like a hamster..it does hurt to eat and you are very sleepy. Keep warm and have lots of painkillers and soft food. It took me about a week to recover, the last week of my uni term before xmas!

You need to have had a booster about 2 weeks before it really kicks in. Quite a few people had it in Soton but an excellent vaccination programme started VERY early meant a lot of people didn't get it.

A good friend of mine is just getting over it. She had her booster and then showed symptoms of mumps a week after.
I know a couple other people that had it in college as well. There was a set of injections arranged recently but a few of my friends couldn't be bothered to get them. The males got especially worried when they found out the *special* symptoms they can have. They thought that I was messing about when I told them.

There's been about 10 cases in our sixth form and a lot more across the area, but the local authorites have done **** all about it. I'm going to get a booster sometime this week.

There were about 10 cases in our school about a month ago. I haven't had it though.

I have it right now... i hate looking like a human hamster! and worst of all ive acctually had the MMR!

I am really annoyed this this was allowed to spread so much at Uni, its totaly unacceptable that people came to lectures with it etc. Brin quarenteen back i say (she who has been banished to her room for almost a week).

my flatmate had it a couple of weeks ago...he looked funny

hehe - there was a massive problem with it in Coventry; like 20 people in my year got it and like a load in other years too. I thought it was pretty funny though because i was vaccinated against it...

My friend came to my party with it, but I don't think she's given it to anyone else (yet!)... she kept a scarf over her face... not very practical at a barn dance!
