What made you choose SOAS?

Ha, well, I haven't received a reply yet - waiting until March! I originally applied for Econ and Dev. Studies but if I get in I'm changing it to Geography and History of Art/Archaeology. I know, I know, BIG switch haha.

Well, I really like SOAS because of its small size, incredible location within London, and the fact that I can complete such a diverse joint-course. I for sure want to do something with Geo/Econ but I've always loved Art History and it would be such a pity to give that up. I'm not planning a career out of it, just as a hobby

Have you visited the school yet?

Hello....
i'm looking for a little bit of guidance!
I applied to do history of art at SOAS and have an offer, but i have no idea what the course is like, what lectures are like etc....
I was just wondering whether anyone could fill me in?
Thanks!

hey guys i've applied for this too and still waiting for the reply! (they sent an email about having alot of aps etc) but yh i went to a taster day and managed to get the booklet on art history! but i'll have to look for it and i cud possibly scan some of the relevant pages if i can't be bothered to type! but from what i can remeber them telling us you take some core units (i think 2) and then the remainder can be taken from any dept (religion, lang, economics etc) and then in your second yr u choose a pathway like near and islamic middle east, africa, asia etc but i'll try and fine the booklet!

oh yh the main benefit is the location the brit museum is down the road as is the brit library and for his of art/archaeology ppl they can use UCL's institue of archaeology dept

helloooo there!!
Well I'll be starting uni this September and if I get the grades I want I'll be studying at the courtauld institute o art which is the place to study if you want to do art history! Soas is my back up... Not a bad one either! The course focuses solely on eastern art... But you can do combos with languages and other subjects... Seems really interesting with very cool people... But it's all down to what you're interested in.. Like my interest is actually western art so courtauld is more suitable for that but if eastern arts your thing then you can't pick a better place! Hope that helped!
Hi

I'm starting History of Art this September.

I wanted a degree that covered both Western art and art from other countries, so I'm doing a joint degree between SOAS and UCL which covers Western art at UCL, and Asian and African art at SOAS  (V351)

Hope this helps

Yeah, I think it will be a really good course

My insurance is Edingburgh uni, where you get to study Eastern and Islamic art too

So wherever I end up I'll be pretty excited
