Thank you,stoney1986.
If Charterhouse gives me a scholarship (about one third of the fees),which one do you think is better?

I have heard of charterhouse only, but thats because i used to live about 5 mins walk from there, and my uncles all went there.

Charterhouse is in a town called Godalming, its quite quiet, but very pretty and old. Guildford is 10 minutes away via train and that is where University of Surrey is, therefore there is a decent nightlife to be had there.

Ive lived in godalming 12 years and loved it.

Cheltenham Ladies' College is more prestigious for girls IMO, because most people still think of Charterhouse as a boys' school, even though it's now mixed.

Now I know Cheltenham will better for a girl.
I always believe Charterhouse is a famous public school just like ETON,HARROW,AND WESTMINSTER.Maybe I was wrong.

Cheltenham's a good place to live. Generally a nice town, though very upper middle class (maybe that's a good thing). Good night life if you're after that, enough shops to keep you amused, and Gloucestershire is a pretty county. Cheltenham Ladies has got a very good reputation, but they are very aware of it so just be careful.

I heard that CLC had slipped down the ratings very badly and they no longer take part in the league tables. You can check out their position if what I heard is not true.
BTW - Don't Charterhouse only take girls in 6th form?

I've just checked ratings myself and take it all back!!!
For last year's exams
CLC GCSE 295th out of 3,571 (nationally)
A/AS 8/2241

Charterhouse
GCSE 462/3571
A/AS 45/2241

CLC wins hands down on position in league tables!

Neither are absolutely fantastic, considering the money they charge.

Oh I don't know so much. Coming 8th in A/AS levels is pretty good even for an independent.
Your school only came 145th for A/AS!!

I was talking about GCSE really, as that is the level that everyone goes up too, so it is a good bench mark for comparison.

I would say (I'm sure others may argue) that Charterhouse isn't quite as famous as Eton and Harrow, but probably on a par with Westminster. CLC is probably equally famous as a girls school. However they are all very prestigious schools.

However I don't think that you should be making a choice of school simply on the basis of "prestige": just choose a school at which you think you will be happy and successful. Unlike universities, the fame of your school is won't change things in the long-run. Why would you particularly want to go to a prestigious school unless you just wanted to boast about it? (sorry about the unsolicited opinion there, but I felt the need to say something...).

The original question was posed for 6th form entry, as are most of the posters on this forum so I guess A/AS level comparisons are most appropriate in this instance.

also, if the skool can't obtain really high results from those people who really want to be there, ie stay on for 6th form, then what can u really say about the skool?
