They did when I had them done last time. And that was at a beauty parlour type place.

I'm not having them done with a needle.

Lol, that's so funny.

Like I said, if they use a gun they're not a reputable place. Especially if they're a "beauty parlour type place".

I thought it was against the law to use guns now??

At this place in Bolton they said that it was totally illegal now and anyone using guns should be reported??

Guns cause too much chock to the system... :frown:

Unfortunately guns aren't illegal, but they should be.

Read about needles vs guns. If you still want to use the gun then you are to blame if it goes wrong.
I had mine pierced with a gun when I was 8. They got infected, I had huge sores on the back, and the backs of the earings were nearly eaten by my ear. Turned out that my ears really don't like gold.
Since then I had them pierced 3 more times (like 3 holes) with a gun. I didn't learn the first time. I looked after them and they were "ok". Weren't even though. And the third hole I had to replace the earring after 3 days because i was told it wasn't gold and it was.

Now I have had two piercings done professionally with a needle (and a few done myself). I haven't had any problems with them at all. Didn't need to religiously clean them afterwards (I use the leave it the hell alone method)

Seriously dude. You need to read up on the dangers of the gun. It's less painful with needles, especially afterwards.

My ears always heal up and I just pierce them again myself. I wouldn't advise that though. I'm just well 'ard.

my ears were done both times with a gun... (I have 2 sets of holes) and they were fine, but I had to look after them really well... A lotta places will refuse to use a gun tho... Anyway, needles are more sanitary and body-friendly...

You won't get anything from a dirty needle, because piercing guns don't use one. They use the blunt stud and force! And they can't be sterilised, so there's actually more risk of contracting something.

I realise that guns don't use needles. I was simply stating some of the advantages I find with having it done with a gun, and stating a disadvantage I would find with using a needle. Read a little closer before handing out bad rep.

I had my ears pierced when i was10 - and they really hurt!!! - don't know what i'll be like when i'm under more pain!!

oh i had exactly the same prob- had them done (witha gun) and tried to look after them properly, obviously not well enough tho cos one of my ears got infected and swallowed up my earing, had to get it cut out! (eww!!) then i tried piercing it myself again but it hurt like hell n got infected again so i just left it and then got it done again a few months after and had no probs wahtsoever. i got the second one done with a gun aswell and it wasn't in a back street place but this was quite a few years ago now.

I never knew there was an alternative to the gun at professional places! the gun never hurt me at all- i even had to ask the lady if she'd done them, i seriously hardly notcied! so whats all this about shock to your body??

Go to a VERY CLEAN tattoo parlour and get them done there. There is one in Aldershot which looks like the most downmarket place in the world from the outside but they have a reputation for scrupulous cleanliness, and they were great the second time I got my ears pierced. The first time I was 10 - my mum took me to Debenhams because it looked nice and safe, and they used rubbish gold plated earrings which infected my ears nicely.

Don't know if this has been said before cos too lazy to read responses...

Piercing guns are BAD!! They shoot a blunt earring through your ear. Not only does this lack precision but it means the hole is jagged, creating more scar tissue and will look worse when healed. The guns can't be sterilised properly, neither can the earrings. In a real piercers, they use needles. They use a needle once then throw it away and the jewellery can be sterilised using an autoclave which kills just about anything nasty. Piercing with a gun forces the skin out of the way and hurts lots more. The other problem with guns is that they only use studs. Studs are bad for healing. You need a CBR (a hoop) because when you clean it you can gently move it round your ear. Plus the piercer will be able to tell you how big the earring should be. Depending on the place you get your ear pierced, you need different widths - if you use one too thin, migration could occur (where the piercing moves through the skin and can sometimes be rejected). If you use one that's really thin it can actually cut through your ear - this happened to my cartilage and now I've got loads of scarring.

As for getting it pierced in the same place...this is dependent on the amount of scar tissue you had. Piercing through scar tissue is difficult and painful. When I got my cartilage repierced I wanted it in the same place but couldn't. Any decent piercer will be able to tell you, and then advise on the best option.

Remember to follow the aftercare instructions!!

I did notice someone on here said they pierced their own ears...that's really bad :frown: that could lead to stuff like keloids and bad scarring :frown:

OK, I realise this thread is quite old now, but I thought you might like an update.

I had my ears pierced by a very reputable company about 3 weeks ago, and they used a gun. It didn't hurt, they're dead straight, the woman was veyr professional and asked me lots of questions to make sure it was going to be fine. The gun WAS sterilised beforehand, not that it would matter as the actual gun never comes in contact with either your ear or the earing (they're in plastic sheath things).

I've had no problems at all, and i'm making sure I'm looking after them well.

And Lozza - you said it would cause loads of scar tissue, the holes from the first one? I didn't have any, as they'd healed up really well - you couldn't even tell I'd had them done, so I was ok in that case.

I still think guns are the better option - i woul dhave passed out if they'd used a needle, I know that for sure, and I would have flinched, making them wonky.

I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I still feel that this was the best way for me personally to ahve them done.

It didn't hurt me at all! I was really scared before, thinking it would hurt sooo much, and actually I hardly even felt it!

:dito:

And I agree that I am much more comfortable with the gun thing than an actual needle. Encountered no problems myself at all.

I'd like to clarify that my only one ear got infected as I had an allergic reaction to the gold in that ear, and i looked mighty strange with only one in. I had them pierced with a gun before and it didn't hurt all that much. I'm petrified of needles of any sort (which is stupid, as I don't mind the gun) so I'd really not like to have it done that way.

I looked after them well before, and I'll go for silver ones this time round

if a place uses a gun it is not a reputable place. guns cannot be sterilised because they are plastic so cannot be autoclaved. this may not appear to be a problem as the gun does not actually touch your ear, but fine sprays of bodily fluid that you cant see often end up on the gun because of the force of the gun. needles do not hurt any more than a gun. you wont find any reputable place that will pierce you with a gun. if your ears get infected this time, dont worry, use salt water or savlon wound wash to clean around it using a cotton bud. dont take it out because the infection will get closed into the skin when the hole heals up. if you leave the earring in, theres room for all the icky pussy nasty stuff to ooze out. if you think its serious just go back to the piercers and theyll tell you what to do. but as long you look after it and dont fiddle with it should be fine.

I'm glad your ears are ok

Don't change the studs for at least two or three months.

Yeah, I wont - that was part of the mistake I made last time!

I'm having them pierced a few more times in the near future, but as i'm having cartilige (can't spell) piercings I will be doing it by the needle method, which i think i can stand now, having got over the initial fear!

I'm really looking after them, so it's all good!
