old rootes and new rootes are right next to each other really. the set up is pretty much the same, although new rootes are, obviously, newer and therefore less shabby etc, but on the whole i think theyre pretty similar size wise and people wise. new rootes rooms are pretty nice and at the price are excellent, so if you get in there thats great.

they're both pretty much the same standard.

Is it true that in Rootes u share bathroom with 12-16 people??
Reply 4
according to warwick accommodation, yep.

Most people I know who were in rootes were pretty happy there though.

i know that in new rootes you do, i shared a kitchen with 17 people. it works out fine. there are four separate toilets along the corridor, and four separate shower rooms, two with a bath, and two with a shower. it really works out fine so you only actually share with 3 other people, and they are cleaned practically every week day.

great! and what's the atmosphere like? as in, are there parties going on EVERY night? or just every now and then?

well there werent parties every night in my kitchen. just lots of sitting, chatting, drinking, kitchen parties every now and then, proper parties for crimbo, birthdays etc (everyone got to choose a theme). tended to go out about 4 times a week to the union usually (people get very lazy on campus i think...) but sometimes to leamington. i thought the atmosphere was great. everyone got on really well(well nearly everyone, i guess its impossible to find 17 people that ALL get on) and a lot of us moved in together the next year. only problm was kitchen tended to get very messy and theres not much room in the fridges/freezer . I wouldnt say rootes was the party halls that some people make out, but its certianly very sociable.

did any of the corridors go out 6/7 nites a week?

quite possibly, but not that i know of. wherever you are in a group of 17 people there will be some who will want to go out every night and some who will only go out once or twice a week. but i think you will find that most people wont go out every night, it gets pretty tiring, there is often some work to do, and it just wouldnt be affordable.

how much do u spend on a nite out in the union?

night out in the union depends.

For me, if its a quiet night then about £10 or so, maybe £15. A big night has had me spending £50 (last night of exams last year).

Grolsch is £1.90 a pint (what I normally drink) though.

wow, that's quite a lot for a "quiet" night out! LOL but I think rootes sounds pretty good anyway. I reckon Im gonna put it first choice accom. can u choose between new and old rootes or does the uni decide? and, can u hear a lot of noise from kitchen parties n all, from the bedrooms?

can't choose between old and new rootes unfortunately :frown:

its not the noise from kitchens that can be bothersrome, its the union. most nights its open till 2 and the noise is actually pretty shocking. actually its not so much the noise as the vibrations. saying that you get used to it after a little while and its not really a problem. even then, its only an issue if youre on the side facing the union, so its only a quarter of the building, and it would be much much worse if you were in whitefields.

Oh! so whitefields is bad? I though it looked quite cosy, with individual little houses

no, whitefields do indeed look very cosy, all self contained and cheap too. but they are very close to the union which is great for most things, it just gets a little noisy in the wee hours, but as i said about rootes, you soon get over it.
