international application

i am an international student from the philippines and would like to make an application to both oxford and cambridge.

i have a question though. which university is more open to having and accepting of international students? is it easier to get into colleges of one uversity over the other?

thank you very much!

Neither is regarded as easier to get in to for international students, but you can only apply to both if you're applying for postgraduate courses.

well, it's almost common sense that oxbridge colleges are never easy to get into, but do you think it's particularly hard for international students?

You can always submit an open application if you are unsure about which college to choose. I have a friend in my college (Pembroke, Cambridge) who was initially interviewed for Girton but subsequently pooled to Pembroke. He's from Malaysia.

I said 'easier' not 'easy.' I answered the question you asked, not the one you presumably thought you asked. Jesus... some people

Mop's right---you can't apply to both oxford and cambridge for undergraduate study.

thanks for the info. didn't know this before. quite leaning towards cambridge actually. are there any major differences between the two universities?

I DIDN'T ask the question you presumably thought I asked, but anyway....is it or is not true?? (the one with the international student having a lessER chance to get into oxbridge))

I believe it's easier for international students to get into Oxbridge (or any other British university for that matter) compared to the home students. You provide the university more money you see..

I think, statistically, international applicants are slightly less successful than UK students at getting entry, but this really doesn't mean much. The statistics probably show that people with the letter "X" in their surname are more/less successful at gaining entry than people without, but no one cares about that. If you really want a place, just apply...the worst that can happen is that you get rejected (and lose money in the application process).

interesting opinion... the money issue might be true, although british uni fees are not comparable to harvard etc..
did anyone of you ever consider studying abroad (not Erasmus-like)? Or is it always a british uni?

British university fees for non-EU students are sometimes as bad as American university fees...and as they aren't as generous with financial support, it can be worse. The advantage is that getting a visa to study in the UK is easier than the US in a lot of cases.

One of the courses I applied for would've meant a year of study in Europe, which I was quite keen on, but then I realised I wanted to get out of university in three years rather than four, so the British university system suited me better.

Oh crap... I thought you were the original poster. Sorry about that... I'm feeling a bit dim at the moment being at home and everything  *crawls into hole that just magically appeared in the ground*
I'm an overseas student and I looked at both Cam and Ox before applying, I really had my heart set on Clare, but they were neither keen to welcome me or my full fees upfront. Oxford on the other hand were very enthusiastic and accepting, but that is probably because I wanted to specialise in Old English, which Cambridge puts less emphasis on. I think statistically it's harder for an international student to get in, but in the end they either want you or they don't.

that is true. if you're good "oxbridge material" they probably don't care whether your from Burmingham or Burkina Faso....
