University or Dance College?

Hi,

My Girlfriend is in the stages of applying for universities. She has been offered auditions at some unis and declined the others. However because she wishes to Dance she wants to go to Reynolds Dance College Link below:

http://www.reynoldsgroup.co.uk/training/

However they only offer these as qualifications -

* Reynolds Diploma in Dance and Musical Theatre
* Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre
* Achieving Sporting Excellence, Dance NVQ Level 3
* BTEC National Certificate in Performing Arts, Dance
* ISTD Major Vocational Qualifications up to Advanced 2, FDI & CDE
* CYQ Gym Instruction & Exercise to Music, Levels 2 and 3
* First Aid at Work
* Plus Audition Technique, Career Planning, Business Preparation & Key skills

Universities offer BA Honors Degrees in Performing Arts, in your opinions which will be better long term given the current economic climate and future opportunities?

Thanks,

James!

University.
Personal opinion.

She should do a foundation course/degree, just to give her a little while longer to decide. She may realise she doesn't want to commit to 3 years.

TBH, I'd go for the BA in Performing Arts.

It's difficult. In the performing arts centres of excellence often lie in specialist colleges rather than universities and, at the end of the day, you ability to find work is entirely determined by your skill and who you know, not by the level of your qualifications.

I am going to Trinity/Reynolds to do the Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre. I have picked it because it is mostly PRACTICAL and not so much written work which is what I need for what I want to go into.

If she does a UNIVERSITY degree it will be alot more theory based. Does she want this or does she want the practicle training? If she wants the theory along side it then go for the university, if you want an intense practicle course, go for Reynolds.
