0845 356 0020: Supposed Natwest fraud number

I've just had an automated phoecall from that number, which knew my name and was telling me to ring back the same number claiming that it was the Natwest fraud department.

googling the number brings up nothing on any Natwest pages

I hope none of my details have been stolen! I used my card online about an hour ago so Im guessing that might have something to do with it (although it was on the Oxfam and Cancer Research websites which I would expect to be pretty secure)

Just got missed call from this number. I was of course suspicious, and so called my Natwest branch (I suggest you do the same, just in case), and they did indeed confirm that the Fraud Department had tried to contact me... they transferred me directly.

Just always check with your branch and they'll be able to tell you whether the Fraud Department has tried to contact you!

Bump. I just got two of these calls on my mobile. Picked up the 2nd time and yeah exactly the same happened, new my name and told me to touch a random key on the keypad to confirm I was a real person. Weird but I hung up, checked my bank online since I did a bit of online shopping a few days ago and none of the transactions show up for those orders. Weird. Guess I'll be going to my branch tomorrow. One of my orders came through though and I received the package today so yeah.

Edit: I called Natwest and it was a real call and they told me my card was cloned. They registered my card number but didn't withdraw any money or use the card. The last place I used my card (where I had to enter my pin) was a Spanish restaurant in Stratford Westfield. Definetly going to have a word with them, I guess there's no way to no for sure. I remember the waitress let me enter my pin but then the card reader failed so she went to get another one. Seems too much of a coincidence after being told this. I doubt Amazon or Burton cloned my card, maybe a seller on the amazon marketplace? They registered my card to 02 and Phones4U.

Bump!

Had a voicemail from this number around midday today, didn't phone back but instead phoned the Natwest main helpline instead.

They confirmed everything, my card was cloned. Luckily the only transactions on it were genuine (i.e. I made them), but they've cancelled my card and are sending me a new one.

So yeah, if anyone gets a call from 0845 356 0020, don't ignore it. This big clue for me should have been the fact they called me at midday on a Sunday and didn't ask me for any bank details.

Nothing wrong with a little healthy suspicion though I guess.

I got this call too. Was very suspicious so I googled the natwest main number and asked them to transfer me to the fraud department. Found out then it was indeed a real call. They blocked my card and sent me a new one due to suspicious activity.

It IS real!! Sounds like a con but it is their fraud team number. Because I typed in wrong expiry date for my debit card on an online charity page my donation was refused. Then I corrected the date and was accepted. This flashed up as suspicious with Nat West. Fair play to them. Card now unblocked after speaking to them on this number. Always good to err on the side of caution and do a bit of groundwork!

NOT a fake call. Genuine call from Nat West fraud dept. Suspicious activity on my card and the bank had blocked it until I responded to the call. Now sorted.

All these comments are such a great help, especially on a Saturday & you can't get to the bank until Monday! Thanks a lot

This is not a fake number.

I tried to buy something online and my card got declined, I tried to get it 4 times thinking i must have entered something wrong but it was still declining. i then went online to speak to a natwest online agent, who told me to log into my natwest online banking, asked for the last 4 digits of my card and my name.

He then told me that the fraud team have detected some unusual activiity from my card and have put a temporary stop on my account until they can discuss with me my recent transactions. They gave me the number for me to give them a call.

I gave the number a call. The lady that picked up the phone asked for my full card number, my date of birth, the first line of my address and my branch I was with. Once i verified my details, she told me the most recent transactions (the last 3) and wanted to check that these were all me. All of the prices and places that I had bought things from were correct so I confrimed that they were all me. She said that my recent transactions followed a fraud thing so that my account had been flagged up. Once she confirmed that all the transactions were me she said that she will now take the block off it.

I then tried to purchase my item online again and the transaction went through!
