Friends,anorexia,and jumping to conclutions

I really think this should stop,I know friends care about their friends and stuff, but they really should stop jumping to conclutions where whenever their friend is not eating their friend is anorexic,I mean really what is the fuss about it,extream anorexia is rare, yes alot of people don't notice them selves getting thinner or see them selves fat,but that is because it's them they don't feel that they are losing weight or whatever.
I wanted to point this out because I've been seeing alot of threads about people thinking their friends are anorexic though anorexic people reaches the limit where they eat a banana aday, you should go deep into it before you make judgements

no, people shouldn't jump to conclusions, I had a friend at shchool who was very tiny, because she had a heart problem, and behind her back everyone was SURE she had an eating disorder, I used to have to tell them not to judge.

On the other hand, people are just being concerned. I've missed the signs before, and felt bad for it :frown:

The world today is crasy! I has a checkup a few months ago as was told im "underweight" and should try and eat more! You wouldnt beleave how much i eat,

On a aveage week day:
-I start with 4weatabix,
-Then at breaktime i have large chocolate crunch biscuit and maybe a few slices of chease/toast or a few mini pancake
-Lunch i'll have One (or often two) packs of sandwichs, a dougnut/biscuit/cake and a can of pop.
-Then i often have a sauaage roll or chocolate on the bus home(while we wait outside the news shop)
-Get home and hour later and make a round of chease/ham (or mars bar) toastys
-snack on a peice of fruit while doing hwk
-And then have a full on cooked tea, followed by another peice of fruit
-Then i go to bed slice of bread/butter and a mug of warm milk/coco.
how can one eat more than that in a day!

- i told her all that and she just shruged, sayed my bmi was below would it "should be" and noted down that i was "underwieght but eating ok"

- I told her to put that i was "the right wieght for who i am, and that i eat more than enough for two people" and you just ignored be and sayed i could go now!

AHhhhhhhh

Surely the very fact that people are coming to this 'support' forum with their concerns rather than approaching their friends directly indicates that 'jumping to conclusions' is the exact opposite of what they are doing.

most of the dudes are starting threads with help my friend is anorexic how can I help them rather than I dunno if my friend is anorexic which means they are jumping to the fact that their friends ARE anorexic they just dunno how to deal with the situation ,I call that jumping to conclusions because most of the stories they post indicates that the chance their friend is anorexic is like 20% or less

I'm not mad at anorexic threads,I'm just made about people jumping directly to conclutions that concerns anorexia, anorexia is a very dangerous disease it never goes away, thats why I made this thread in the first place,to tell people to slow down in their anorexic concerns judgements

Its pretty obvious your talking about my thread. You say im jumping to conclusions yet you dont actually know the person im talking about. And the fact that my school rang up their mum kinda shows Im not making a storm out of a teacup.
Your thread seems to say that it is stupid of me to care about whether my friend has a disorder that could kill her. My friend has admitted she has a problem and that she needs to eat more. She also has OCD which Im guessin is linked to the way she treats food, and has got more and more depressed this year, which is a classic anoerxia symptom.
like lessthanthree says, i didnt just go up to her and say "oh my god your anorexic sort yourself out", i understood that the problem was complex and that is why I asked for help by writing the thread.

oh yeah and i dont judge my friends, if I judged her i wouldnt have sought the help of others before finding out whether she was ok or not.

It sounds like you think anorexia's only a problem when the sufferers have reached the worst limits. I'm no expert in the subject but from what I've heard it's a gradual decline, and the further the sufferers go, the harder it is to help them develop normal habits and a healthy body. Even if you see people as being overly-worried and paranoid, there's a chance that the people's friends could be on the slippery slope that leaves them weighing 5 stone and hooked up to support machines in the hospital. If there is a worry, there's probably a reason for it. Even if the person concerned doesn't have anorexia, they could still have a problem with eating that's best confronted and looked at rather than ignored, because that may lead to an escalation and further problems.

I read somewhere that a large percentage of people with eating disorders go undiscovered because they hide it so well and they remain at a weight limit that's thin or skinny but not emaciated. If a friend is concerned for them, this could lead to help when no-one else might notice or acknowledge it.

The reason people jump to conclusions about eating disorders is that they don't understand them. People think if you are skinny or you don't eat much then you might have an eating disorder because that is what they have learnt by seeing the worst case scenarios in magazines and the press. In reality there is a lot more to it than that and people just don't understand unless they have been there themselves, and even then sufferers tend to grow to believe whatever they are told by their therapist. The majority of people with eating disorders are actually average or slightly overweight, but people are far to quick to associate thinness with an eating disorder.

Agreed. There is too much misunderstanding esp with media hype.

I wasn't refaring to your thread,I was talking in general, and not only on this forum but in real life,I don't even know if you made a thread, and I didn't say friends shouldn't care about their friends,I was actully speaking from an experience

Ok, but its just the way you worded your post. it seemed like an attack on people who were genuinely worried about their friends
