Doing a degree unrelated to A-level subjects.

I'll be going to uni in september, and the course i'll be studying is one that i've never studied before and its one that is pretty much unrelated to the three A-level subjects i'm doing at the moment. Is this a common situation to be in? Will I be able to cope when I arrive at uni, or will the lecturers start teaching from the assumption that all the new undergraduates know pretty much nothing about the subject?:eek3:

Depends what you're doing. I picked up International Relations at uni having never studied the subject before, but then again no one else had either so they started from the very basics! If you're doing something that other people have probably done for A-level, though, they might assume some prior knowledge..

I think that the above sentence is the best possible answer anyone can possibly give you. There are so many variables, so many factors etc which you must consider......It all depends!

As others have said, there are far too many variables to give a straight answer. I did straight sciences and maths for my A-levels - I'm now studying Economics & Politics and well ahead of the class, so it's certainly possible.

What subject is it? I think it can be a little easier to pick up a humanity whilst, if you are doing a degree in Biology without having done it at A-level etc, they would assume prior knowledge.

Well if it's Law, they assume that you have no prior knowledge of the subject. It could be many things, but we do not know what it is, so we must not assume.

I'm doing economics at university in September, I take HL Physics, Business and History (with SL Mathematics). They're quite related I suppose .. but I didn't take an IB course in economics.

So you're doing the IB? Sorry, I'd assumed you were doing A Levels.
