They were too extreme for the middle classes who were more concerned with the anti corn law league which was more pacifist.
There were many different forms of chartism
Start with something general such as "There were many causes for the failure of chartism such as it's factionation (becoming divided)
I got a B in this essay- Hope it helps!

Thanks, I am going to try to get started now!
Internal divisons you could just talk about the leaders, moral vs physical etc

Then for other stuff you could talk about the points mentioned by Terry J, also mention how the violence advocated by O'Connor put many middle class supporters off.

Thanks for your help. I have started my essay and have noted these ponits in the essay. However, after more research on the topic I thought that chartisms failure was more to do with the elitist parlimentary system which knocked the chartists back each time they brought a petition to london.
I would be most grateful if you could let me know what you think?

Yeh you could probably argue that i.e. at the Kennington Common meeting in 1848 - govt' was really harsh (also proved the chartists didnt really want violence/ unprepared) ... think continuous poor relations between w.class and m.class & the divided leadership is v.important aswell tho
