I don't think you would need to worry about the competition too much if you're planning on becoming a teacher yourself as when it comes to the job selection process, schools will see that you've been aiming for this for longer than they have and you will have more teaching experience.

I'm lucky in that languages aren't something that you can learn in six months so I wouldn't be worried anyway

Its not about being worried, it is about the increased competition. It is already hard enough to get a job- especially in Primary Ed. And some schools do love new government initiatives.

People could already know the language, lots of people are bilingual!

It annoys me the most that I spend 3 years and 1 year as an NQT training to do a job. Then someone who has worked in a field completely unrelated to teaching, can come and apply for the same job as me after working 6 Months on a training course. It completely undermines my degree!

This course is surely designed for people who already work in a school in a classroom setting for years. TA ‘s are often expected to take classes etc, and if you’ve been a TA for years is would surely be a good route to fast track you to being a teacher?
