Why do British girls have the reputation of being ugly?

Bad reputation indeed. Also a reputation of being promiscuous and constantly drunk.

I don't aggree (to some extent) but this is the reputation they have here in Sweden!

Well, i guess im one of those people. When ever you watch British Movies or T.V. shows, there isnt (not sure what to say) the type of "beautiful" British actresses. Even British Female politicians are really ugly.

Beautiful British actresses are plenty canuck: Kate Winslet, Rachel Weisz, Claire Forlani, Kate Beckinsale, Mischa Barton, Keira Knightley, Liz Hurley, Joely Richardson (although she's getting on). These are actresses you've probably seen and never realised were British. Even for Pearl Harbor, they recruited a British girl (Kate Beckinsale) to play the "gorgeous babe" role...

Canuck, what you say is interesting but it definitely reflects ideas conveyed by the media where you're from.

Here, apart from Elisha Cuthbert or Pamela Anderson (and that's if people realise they're Canadian and Pamela Anderson is a yank now anyway), few people here know any good-looking Canadian girls.
As for Australians, they're descendants of British and Irish. It's a multicultural country, true. But so is the UK...

And I don't know what you mean by "Even British Female politicians", it's not as if all politicians are meant to be really stunning and it's only British female ones that are minging.

Anyway, as ponjavic has suggested, I think it's the British ladette culture we have here. Downing pints with the lads and sometimes playing a bit of football, Bend it like Beckham style and all.. it's not the most feminine of stereotypes. Especially as in comparison, Swedish women are meant to be largely blonde and cool, French women are known for sophistication and polish, and Italian women are meant to be all dark sultriness.. I know they're all stereotypes and I've never been to Sweden, Italy or France for any great length of time so can't say they're true, but I'm guessing that stereotypes and media portrayal has a lot to do with it. Maybe the fact that the British film industry isn't that huge either, means that less images of British life are shown and other countries don't get to see a wide picture? I'm just rambling now..

Ive never walked the streets off the U.K. I only see what the British media shows. Until then, my opinion is only based off telivision.
