huh? how can that be right? the final grade doesnt take the grade of your lab reports but adds the POINTS to the exam POINTS and each counts a certain percantage.
This actually applies to all subjects. There are no grades at any point of the IB, only points. The only grade you get is the one at the end of the exam

No, not really. It's a weighted average. This is from the "official" email my IBC received last year and then forwarded to me, so yes, it's correct unless I made a mistake retyping it.

WRONG. There is something called internal assessment which contributes around 20-30% for each subject (varies from each subject). For science, now itw 24%. This include your best 2-6 lab reports, group 4 project and personal skills mark. So these marks will be submitted to IBO and will count into your in final grade.

What you are saying doesn't make any sense..of course each counts a certain percentage, be it IAs or exams, but thats why we have grade boundaries for each component!

Okay, to clarify myself I quote this now out of the OSC IB chemistry revision guide:

Grades are calculated based on your RAW score, not the 1-7 scale - 39/40 is better than 38/40 even though they are both '7' - the '7' is for guidance only.

I hope u get my point now

Obviously a 39/40 is better than 38/40, but what everyone is saying is that regardless of what you score, if you get a 7 (IAs + exams), it's a 7 overall and that's what counts to your overall IB Diploma. The only real difference a 38 would make over a 39 is if you're a borderline 7 in the exam; the 39 may help you score a 7 while with a 38, you may get a 6 (depending on how you do on your exam).

again this goes back to the chicken egg theory, YOU NEED a score for each subject (1-7) to make up your RAW score. THE grades for each subject is calculated in the 1-7 scale, so what are you talking abt? The 7 is not for guidance, universities do look at them as a matter of fact, for say if you do not get a 7 in that subject even you get 42 points you wont get in.

Sorry i dont get your point lol. Your point is totally different than your previously claim (IAs dont count on your grade lol)

does anyone know if the grade boundaries have been modified? because my biology teacher was saying she believes they are slightly higher for biology, while my chemistry teacher was saying the above scores.
