For all those who did the SMC, your teachers actually have the answers and send off your marks to the organising body type thing. After collecting all our answer sheets our teacher marked them in front of us. You get 4 per right answer, -1 per wrong answer, 0 for not attempting the question, and 25 just for doing it. Our teacher later gave us the answers. So here goes:
1- D
2- A
3- A
4- C
5- A
6- B
7- C
8- E
9- B

25- B
Hope you did well, and can I get some rep for divulging this? (Even though it's now OK to do so...)
By the way I got 83. From the answers above how did you think you did?

Maybe this thread will get more attention when the other mathematicians among us log on tomorrow (or later on today, whatever).

I think some of the answers above are wrong. eg question 25 you say b one solution yet the answer is d 3 solutions (1/7 +2/133=3/19) (1/13+2/247=3/19) (1/19+2/19=3/19

I was invited to do the intermediate Maths challenge - lol.
Someone from my school is on the olympiad team. Unfortunatly, he fits the geek - no friends - no social life stereotype.

Wow that's very good. But you should have worked harder for the other four marks. You obviously lack commitment to the subject

Anyone agree that the answers to 10, 15 and 25 are wrong? Any other incorrect answers? (I can't spot any).

I lacked the visualisation for one question (q23) - v disappointing

I sat staring at that one for ages trying to see it, eventually got it right though, and managed a proof that satisfied me

k, I've got a copy of the paper, here's the answers I get:
1 D
2 A
3 A
4 C
5 A
6 B
7 C
8 E
9 B
10 D
11 C
12 C
13 A
14 E
15 ?
16 A
17 C
18 E
19 E
20 B
21 B
22 ?
23 B
24 A
25 ? (probably D, though)
I'm afraid I haven't worked out 15, though it's not A or B (since obviously 1 and 2003squared are both factors, but I couldn't see a straightforward way to prove any of the others), and don't have a proof for 25, it's all very well citing 3 pairs as answers, but I wouldn't like to conjecture the answer was D without a formal proof (do you have one?).
Does anyone have a proof for 22, all I noticed was that D is the sum of all the numbers from 1 to 100, but couldn't see how to fit that to the question :?
