Laser Eye Surgery

Anyone ever thought about having laser eye?

I've bin short sighted ever since i can remember and i wear contacts at the moment, but they just annoy me. And you've gotto keep changing them. :frown:

I was hoping on getting laser eye when im older, seeing as its getting cheaper and more advanced. Anyone know anyone whos had it done, or is anyone thinking about having it?

perfect vision

Im trying to convince my mom to let me have it. She keeps saying that i should wait because it may be dangerous or it may have side effects later on in life, (Parents are too protective :frown: ). It seems pretty safe on those websites though, and i bet loadsa people have had it done, and there doesn't seem to be any major disasters yet, well not that ive heard of  lol.
i agree. i couldn find the website that i had looked on before but i think this may be the procedure- Wavefront http://vision.about.com/od/laservisioncorrection/f/wavefront.htm

After seeing it done on Ten Years Younger I reconsidered ever having it done....contacts will do!

I had it done last summer. The results are really pleasing and side effects are almost non existant.

i was gonna have it done, but then i dont have €3000 to spend :frown:
yeah...i've always thought about having laser for my eyes. it would be rather nice to have almost perfect vision again. the thought of not having to live with glasses / contacts makes me smile hehe. i heard that there are still occasional accidents with it...but i guess the chance is really slim. when i grow a bit older...i'll probably go for it.

Contemplating it, but as it's quite new and nobody's quite sure of the long term effects of having bits of your cornea shaved off (might especially be a problem when you get older) I'm going to stick with contacts and glasses for now.

Sounds very nice, no contacts or glasses. Would make life that much easier. But most places wont let you have it done until you are over 21, and it costs a bomb (£1000 an eye, or some very large similar sum). Apparantly your eyes can revert, my uncle had it done and had to have it redone 10 years later. But that was like 15 years ago and Im sure things have come a long way since then.

It sounds like a dream to not to have to wear contacts and glasses anymore. To be able to swim and not see a blurry mess around you or lie in bed and actually see everything clearly.

But the risk is too great. I know tehre haven't been any problems in the past (from what I've read) but it only takes 1 person (you) and then no matter how much compensation they give you, it wouldn't bring your happiness back if you cannot see anymore. It's trusting these surgeons with your life. That's really scary - to go blind simply because you wanted a bit more visual convenience.
I've thought about it...I don't like how I look in glasses...but I'd only do it if it was free
I'm sticking with glasses actually... Contacts were a disaster - I ended up in A&E having one removed  - and in order to put them in the lady had to squirt numbing stuff in my eye cos I have a HYPER strong blinking reflex... Am terrifed of the concept of surgery and would only have it if it was a life/death situation.
got a nice new pair and have decided to grin and bear it

I looked into it, but at the time I was apparently too young, and you have to have a stable prescription for 3 years which I also don't have.

Until the NHS seriously consider offering it too patients then I wouldnt risk it. Glasses and contacts arent that troublesome in context.
I heard something about it and my cousine will probably do that this year.
Some of her friend did the laser thing and there were excellent results, but it didn't work out for one girl and now her eyes have become quite bad.

and also someone said your eyes will be negatively affected when you get older
btw my cousine told me that if you do this "operation", you are not allowed to see light for 3 months  I think that is unimaginable

I just want to remind you peeps that laser eye surgery is not recommend to anyone if you are under the age of 20. This is because there is a possibility that your eye can naturally correct itself.

I wear contacts myself, I don't find them annoying actually, they are very comfortable to wear (except obviously when you first start wearing them they can be a little uncomfortable). I wear coloured contacts so my eye colour is constantly changing, I like it :-).

Have you guys considered wearing those lenses that you can wear all day (ie even sleep with them)? they cost around £30 per month.

flip flop!! try coloured contacts!! alot more fun!!
try coloured contacts, Freshlookcontacts.com or i think Boots Opticians sell 1 day disposable acuvues in colours-makes contacts alot more fun!

also in america u can buy contacts which squeeze the cornea into a normal shape while u wear it, so when u take it out, for a few hours u can still see well.
