Physiotherapy at Kings College London

Hiya,

I'm 26 and have just been made a conditional offer at Kings College for physiotherapy. Now I really want to hear from students doing that course. There's loads of students from St. Georges recommending their degree and saying how enjoyable (but busy) it is, but the Kings students are a quiet lot! Is that because the degree is so demanding that you don't have any spare time?! Would love to hear if you're enjoying physio at Kings as I'm seriously considering it.

I know London well, used to live there so am mainly interested to hear if the course is enjoyable, satisfying, fullfilling, friendly, interesting - etc.

Many thanks

Hi Activeroo,
I'm 27 and intend to apply to Kings to start physiotherapy in 2010. I am doing a level biology this year and have an arts degree. Did you apply with similar qualifications? Just wondering what ,my chances are! Any info much appreciated!

Hi!

My background is in arts, but ballet is quite a demanding art form so that probably went in my favour to a certain extent. They like you to have experience working with physios I haven’t done this but I’ve had a long-term voluntary job with disabled dancers.

My GCSE and A-Level results were nothing special so I took an 'Access to Health Professions' course, and all the uni’s I applied to said it would qualify me for the physiotherapy degree, the other wannabe physio on my Access course got into 4 of her 5 uni’s.

They want a good personal statement at Kings, I took quite a bit of time on mine, you have being a mature student in your favour as you have life experience! I think the fact you already have a degree is great, it shows you can study at that level and know what to expect.

It sounds like you're on the right track, just make sure you've checked with the uni to see if you're qualifications are ok for them. Oh, and with physio it's all about knowing a lot about the profession and what you're letting yourself in for, it's so competative that they really want to make sure you've chosen the right thing for you.

Thanks Activeroo, I've spoken to all the unis I intend to apply to and they are all happy with the qualifications I have. I think the personal statement is key, and the work experience. Only time will tell... Thanks again for your info.

I'm at George's but yep, I'd agree with that - get a good PS and plenty of work experience. I got an offer from King's too.

WOuld be good to have a King's blog so people can compare.

What made you choose St. Georges and not kings??

Several reasons tbh

1) I'm a mature student, and at the open day pretty much everyone else there (except for parents and staff) seemed straight out of school. I felt a bit out of place, and even the staff thought I was a parent at first. I'd probably have mixed in well, but I just felt a bit awkward. The George's interview day was far more of a mix of ages

2) By their own admission, the King's course is less practical and more academic. George's does the academic side but mixes it in well with practical.

3) I just got a good buzz about George's at the day I visited, it seemed way more friendly

Hi

I've been lookig into going back to uni to do physiotherapy as a mature student. I've got unrelated qualifications and looking to do something over the next 12- 18 months to bridge the gap and give my application a better chance of being successful. Did you do your access to health professionals course full time or part time and where did you do it? Did you consider doing A levels?

The open univesristy does a stand alone course in human biology which I've seen a couple of uni's refer to in their entry requirements but would really like to give myself the best chance possible. Has anyone else done this with the same intention?

Any advice would be most appreciated!
