King's College London GPA Question

I've applied to King's College London but I'm confused whether I'll even be considered.

Their entry requirements state a "minimum 3.25 GPA or upper second class degree". I'm American so my grades are in gpa format. I don't have a 3.25 gpa (3.16 overall, 3.23 major) but I do have what is considered an upper second class/2:1 (I've got offers from Glasgow and Leeds with these grades/the 2:1).

My question is, are they absolutely strict on the gpa thing? The rest of my application is solid (great references, great writing sample, 5 years relevant experience) but I'm worried that I'll be passed over completely cause of my gpa. I know it says gpa OR upper second, but I'm guessing the gpa applies to students who had a gpa format, like us Americans.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

They are not absolutely strict with it, no. But it certainly is somewhat of a disadvantage. Still worth trying though, you do not seem to be that far below and as long as the rest of the application is really strong...

Thanks, that is reassuring. I talked to someone else who got accepted and she had a 3.8 gpa but, with Glasgow, I talked to a girl who got accepted to the course I applied to there, and she has a 3.7 and I still got in there, so I'm hopeful, but definitely realistic.

Here goes similar question. KCL requires 3.25, but I have no idea if my GPA meets the requirement. I went school in small country, and I got B+~A-. I asked the admission office whether I meet the requriement or not, and she just told me to apply. So how would they assess my file? If I give one example here, LSE required 85% mark on my country GPA system, and I have that score. It said that 85% equaled 3.5 in American GPA. Or would each school use different system?

I don't think anybody here will be able to help you with those intricate details. Personally I think the KCL admission office is right, just apply. Also, if it is enough for LSE it will in all likelihood be enough for KCL.
Regardless of whether another institution considers your 3.16 GPA to be equivalent to a upper second class degree, THEY obviously don't, and that is what matters. They wouldn't have set the requirement if they didn't consider it to be important...

Well I emailed them and they said it will be up to the admissions tutors discretion, so I'll just wait and see.

Uhh okay, I just recalculated my gpa, because apparently my student records failed to include my semester exchange grades (which were counted towards my major) on my online records.

Recalculated, my grades are well above a 3.23 gpa. The admissions tutors *will* look at/scrutinize my transcripts right? The incorrect 3.23 I put on my online application will hopefully not be the end of the line for me :frown:

May I ask if you got accepted? Also, which university did you go to in the US? I'm trying to apply to KCL as well so I'm pretty nervous!
