Very much depends on the uni in London... Nightlife (in theory) can be great because of all the clubs around, but if you're in one of the more socially-stunted unis, like LSE or Imperial (I go to LSE and I have no problem saying it - it's a pretty long-running 'joke'), you may not find a lot of people interested or find that the university run-events are pretty poor. Some of the others have a better reputation for that.

The sense of community I would say isn't as great as elsewhere. My experience of it at LSE (compared to places I've visited over the year) seem, at least to me, to suggest that there's more of a disconnection between university and the student body. It's not really a very tangible point sorry, but maybe someone can put it into better words. I guess really the best way to describe it is that you don't feel as much a part of the university as elsewhere. That community again depends on the uni you're in too, and I'm sure someone will disagree with me but this is my experience of it anyway.

I've heard people talk of London being lonely. And also that the nightlife is too expensive, like £10 into a club and then £5 per drink, and to get in to the good places you need to be on the guestlist anyway!
But when I was at UCL on wednesday it seemed pretty vibrant. And my friend at London Met lives in halls and its pretty crazy! (in a good way)

I don't know what to make of it.
But I think it'd be good to be living in london at some stage in your life, just for the experience like.

I think the experience in London is unique, for want of a better word. It can be expensive, and it's different to elsewhere. I really think it's a case of whether the different lifestyle is suitable for the individual. For some it's perfect, for others it's ok, and for some, I would say it's not right at all. Experiecing it first hand (open days) would be the best way of finding that out.

I love uni life in london. I go to QM so its a capus uni and so there is a "community spirit" but i love the fact that the university isnt all there is to the place or that the university makes up the town. The students are really good and there is one everyday of the week apart from sunday where loads of students from lse, ucl, london met, imperial go to. You meet so many different people its amazing.

Also the nightlife is so varried i dont think other places can complete in essence everything is on your door step to a posh night out at a mayfair club, to some hard core dnb to electro.

And its never boring galleries, parks to visit, and a real international feel. University is what you make it and im sure if you make a effort you will have a great time in london

Night life in London is sometimes expensive, but they are great. This, I think, is the sort of exposure you won't get in a smaller community type of uni. I, for instance, quite like the gay scene.

There are loads of cinemas, galleries, parks etc ... so you're never left with nothing to do.

i tell yeah man i live and work in London and will be going to Gloucestershire in semptember, Cheltenham is a lovely place but man it's going to be a culture shock,
even on the open day i was in my postman stride and everyone seemed to be looking at me, then i clocked that i was charging around at about 100 mph, crazy.

what about Westminster? Has anyone been to Intermission or else?

I used to live in Bristol and went out three, maybe four times a week, mostly same-y dull things. Now I'm at university in London and divide my time between the Student Union, clubs in central and random little gigs/events in out-of-the way places. I've had very few nights in since I got here. There's just too much stuff to do.

Also I'm at Goldsmiths in South-East London, which is significantly cheaper than living in central. But we still get the massive London loan. Go figure!

pee ess- the most I've paid to get into a club since I got here is £7, and that was a one-off trip to Pacha (never again). As for drinks, we solve that by making the local off-licences our best friends. 8 beers for a fiver? Three bottles of wine for a tenner? Yes please. Then I smuggle them into clubs. Don't ask how.

Roehampton is a 'London Uni' but it's on the outskirts. Which I love because it's easy to get into central if you want, but there's plenty to do around me which is alot cheaper than main London!

you say like it gets 'crazy' in halls and such, like most typical unis, but is that the case with somewhere like UCL? Just worried that (no offence) since theres a lot of international students, itd be all work work work we dont like drinking kinda atmosphere, unlike other unis such as manchester or leeds

London student life is pretty amazing.

It's just great to have everything on your doorstep. So many shops are open till past midnight and everything. You've got all of London's social scene on your doorstep. Some clubs can be pricey, I've paid £12 to get into Fabric and regretted it. But if you do enough looking around you'll find clubs that suit your music tastes and your pocket.

I think living in London makes you a bit more independant that living in a proper campus uni, just because there is generally a bit less of a connection between student body and university. But that makes you go out and find things for you to do socially, rather than just popping down to the SU every Friday.

As for the atmosphere, you'll easily find other people in halls who are into drinking and partying as normal, even as SOAS, which is pretty small, I've been able to find lots of people who are like me in that sense.

As for people saying its more expensive in London, only bits of it are. Accomodation definately is, I'm paying £120 a week this year for halls. Clubs can be expensive but student nights are normally good value for money, transport is cheap anf food is about the same.
