Teeth Whitening

I was watching tv the other night and it suggested a cheap remedy for teeth whitening is to rub lemon on your teeth and then rinse it thoroughly after.
However even if you rinse thoroughly will this be safe for your teeth?
I don't have any fillings and I don't want any. I've read elsewhere that even if its only on your teeth for a small amount of time that the lemon will reduce the calcium in your teeth and strip the enamel which has to be bad doesn't it.

Anyone else know if its a good idea and if not are there any other cheap remedies?

Why dont you just use Crest white strips? ...They are pretty cheap, at least in the states they were only 30 bucks. U can try puttin lemon on there...but im pretty sure it wont do anything for u. The white strips work really well. Guaranteed. And hey, you can always do like i did and go to ur dentist and get them whitened and make ur insurance pay for it...buy saying u had a "gum treatment". As long as u can find a dentist whos willing to be dishonest like mine..then UR SET!! hahaha

I don't agree with using the main whitening products I'd rather use more natural remedies.

Lemon definitely does work but I don't know whether its bad for your teeth in the long run thats my main concern.
Also we don't have medical ins here unless you pay privately and I definitely can't afford to have them professionally whitened, my cousin had it done when she had a tooth fixed and the whole bill was upwards of £300

It shouldn't be if I use products that i got from dentists which are prolly harsher on ur teeth than the acid from lemons are.

If the dentist says its ok to use peroxide, i dont think lemons should be too bad. Have u tried whitening toothpastes? Those work really well too, i use them just to maintain the whiteness... but it seems my teeth have gotten alot whiter...

Yeah I use a whitening toothpaste but my teeth naturally aren't really white. So I like to keep them as white as possible. I used to buy the dental tablets that colour all the patches you miss when brushing your teeth and use those at regular intervals but I haven't managed to get any of them for ages.
I think I might try the lemons and see how it goes.

Acid on teeth is not good. Those whitening kits do make your teeth whiter, but they're quite harsh and may cause damage if used a lot, no?

i dont think lemons are that harsh. but im not sure if they're meant to be used on teeth either. well... you know what they say... when life gives u lemons...make... a home made bleaching kit out of them. ahem.

There's one kit I really like the look of which is less than £10. It's called the rapid white brush on system or something like that and its like a pen you paint your teeth with. I first saw it advertised on the shopping channels but now they sell it in Boots.

I don't know if this is true but I heard you should use a fluoride mouth wash after whitening treatments because they leave your teeth slightly porous and this should help 'fill them up'. Sounds like b****cks to me, and I did hear it from a beauty queen on sky's "100 ways to look good naked". Anyone else know anything about this?
