How long are your courseworks on average? I've written one about 5000 words long and think I've over done it? :/

Mine are about ~2000 words I'd say. I don't think there's a word limit for English, so that shouldn't be a problem - although my teacher always advised us to use 1000 words as a rough guideline. Saying that though, my friend wrote about 15 pages for one piece and she got either full marks or almost full marks. However, do be careful you're not waffling in those 5000 words, as that could lose you marks.

So basically, if it's 5000 words of good quality it'll be fine, but if it's got some waffle in there, I'd try and cut that out.

I've written between 2000 and 3100 words for every piece I've done since last year when I began the GCSE course (for both language and literature), and have consistently gained 24/25 or 25/25. Clearly, 5000 words is excessive.

2000 words normally. Although some people consistently write ~10000

Thanks everyone - I hadn't realized I had written so much until I looked. Though I would say it is quality and not waffle as I heavily analyzed words used etc.

Thanks for all the help anyways I'll try edit out the perhaps more irrelevant bits.
