I am writing an essay for my university course on Education.

"Is education a service or a marketable commodity?"

I would appreciate any ideas, resources or opinions.

Thanks for your help.

You pay me - I write your essay for you ...

You're supposed to be at University to be educated ... If you think you
can buy knowledge as opposed to information there's your answer.

A service that can be provided to a specified individual IS a marketable
commodity. If it is not possible to supply the service to a specific
individual who has paid for it without also supplying it to others who
have not then it is a public good / service.

Only internal / external security are true public goods / services. For
all others e.g.. Education & Health (except, possibly disease control),
you can create a market by differentiating the quality of service and
charge for it.

I am interested in this. It is a Thatcherite essay title.

"Anything can be a marketable commodity" is the basic message of
Thatcherism. It is one endorsed by New Labour. It is disgusting.
Education ought to be a right. It has become something you have to pay
for. The abolition of free education (Thank you Mr Blunkett) was a
prelude to privatisation. On Sat, 22 Dec 2001 22:29:34 -0000, "Spike"
