I'm looking to buy a new laptop, budget is around £600-700. I only need it for surfing the web and doing work. Need some advice on which is the better company to go for, Sony or HP?
Thanks

Sony laptops are not that great, dispite sony being the premier electronics maker. I dunno if they've sorted this now but about 1-2 years ago their laptop hard-drives were notorious for being faulty. HP are really good, their stuff are reliable. I tend to buy lenovo and hp, never had a problem.

Very true, last Christmas my mother bought me a Sony laptop which cost £1100 as soon as I turned it on it shut down and from that point I never got to use it, add that experience to their appalling customer service I made the decision to never buy or ask for a Sony laptop again. For a brand that is considered to be prestigious amongst others I expected much more of them.

On the other hand, HP is fantastic I have stuck with them for several years and they have never failed me.

have fun with that:rolleyes:

OP, for general usage, you won't need to spend much more than £400-450.
there are some decent HP laptops on ebuyer, model 6735.

ive had 3 vaios so far. all of them great laptops, put them thoroughly through their paces. On average they last around 3 years each? I remember the first one.... cost like 4k and was a complete piece of crap (specs wise). I find the vaios have a really good build quality, and if you know whos buttons to press their customer support is top notch (got a new charger same working day =O). hp will be cheaper though...
