Well, ask yourself: why should the magnitude increase?
Your textbook is right, by the way. Draw a force triangle for two vectors that are 'almost parallel', for two that are 'almost at right angles' and for two that are 'almost antiparallel', and see what the resultant force looks like.
resultant of object 3m to east, 4m to north is 5m NE
resultant of object 3m to east 4m northeast is 6.5m at 6.5degrees to north from east.
so the first one, the angle between vectors is 90 degrees second one the angle between vectors is 135 degrees.. 2nd one produces a bigger resultant of 6.5m..
so doesnt dat mean a bigger angle produces bigger resultant?
