when watching divx content on WMP, the screen is covered by horizontal lines which are very distracting. They are absent when watching the same content in VLC. Anybody know what they are/how to remove them?

Do they appear more prevalent when the picture is moving fast? If so, they're interlacing lines, and I suspect VLC is running some sort of interlace reduction filter.

I was going to say the same as cyclopsrock... it's probably interlacing. Maybe WMP doesn't have a deinterlacing filter.

Yes...but the thing is, i've only had this problem since I upgraded to vista a couple of weeks ago, and as far as i'm aware it's the same WMP version...

can't see any options to change interlacing etc on wmp

Set the interlacing in the DivX codec Decoder Configuration Utility might work.
