** I already posted this in another thread, but it got no response, so Ive started a special thread, all of its own **

I have an unconditional offer.
Im considering Applying for Windsor Terace as first choice, Marris House as second choice, and putting 'Location' and then 'Facilities' as my 'deciding factors' , if you like.

Do you think this would stand me in good chance of getting into one of my choices?

it should do depends on how they sort out the accommodation criteria..

for mine Ive got Henderson Hall as first choice and Castle Leazes as second choice

My criteria are 1st "Facilities" and 2nd "Cost".

So hopefully Ill get the right choice

If you have an unconditional, you shouldent have much problem getting into marris of windsor terrace.

As for putting 'cost' as reasoning for castle leazes, its more expensive than alot of others, but you should be ok. I dont know many people that didnt get into leazes who applied.

Henderson halls is quite far away, you have to get a bus in, but its meant to be quite nice.

you should both be fine!

I visited Newcastle last week and took a peek into the administration office for a chat. I'm interested in Windsor Terrace, and the woman told me that all unconditional offers are provided for first. Since not that many unconditionals are given out, there aren't going to be enough to fill out the chosen accomadation, meaning you're practically guaranteed your first choice =D

Kool stuff =D
Theyve told me my unconditional will appear on UCAS really soon, so as soon as it does, Im gonna apply for the accommodation with Windsor T 1st choice and Marris House as 2nd Choice, hopefully get into them(One)!
(TBH with ya, i have no preferance b/w Marris and Windsor, there the same to me.... but Windsor is pratically on campus lol =P)
Do you have an offer from Newcastle? what r u studying??

I visited on a Monday and Tuesday, meaning I didn't get to go on an accomodation tour, so i'm not so positive about my choice of accomation. But I have a conditional offer for law, and when I visited the law school I saw Windsor Terrace as it was literally like, out of the door of the law school! xP Meaning lots of lie ins ^^
The only downside is that I was talking to a third year in the law school who said that sharing a kitchen in Windsor Terrace with six other people means that you don't socialise as much as you would if you went to the likes of Richardson Road, but as i'm quiet I don't think i'd mind that so much as long as the people I shared a kitchen with were nice!
I must look into Marris House, is it as nice as Windsor Terrace?

Fantastic!! Well Done!!

Well, Im more of the quiet type too, I dont think id fit in at Ricky Road to be honest.
Marris house is 90% the same as Windsor T, except its close to Ricky Rd and the Bedrooms are slightly bigger ive heard. thats the only major difference, because price is the same for both.
Im phoning them first thing tomorrow morning to arrange a visit, hopefully on a weekend if they can help it lol =p.
Im SOOOO excited!!!!!

yeh Ricky Road apparently is very party first year atmosphere if you like

I've had that all this year in Liverpool thats why to be honest, I'd like to move to Henderson Hall

Is there anychance that I could check the status of Henderson Hall?..Booking wise...I had a quick look into it and apparently when I applied it was £102.70 a week (or something like that) and now its gone up to well over £110 per week which is a lot, same for castle leazes too...

maybe I should reconsider but I really want catered this year

Well, if you want catered, thats what youve got to settle for- the higher prices!

IMHO, I think catered is overpriced and a rip-off.

Ive practiced some weekly shopping for the past 6 monhts, in prep for Uni life, adn my bill comes to £12-£15/week (could get it lower if I tried), and thats for ALL meals ALL day EVERY day.

In catered, youre going to be paying an extra £30(ish) for 10 meals a week. Mon-Fri breakfast and Tea. You ahve to provide your own Lunches and your own weekend food.

So even if you ARE oging catered, youre gonna have to do cooking STILL lol.

oh right should I re evaluate my situation then?

atm I pay about £20 a week for all of my meals per week.....

Prob next year though Id like probably a bit more luxury (ie double bed) if im going to go self-catered again

thinking about it..it probably is cheaper me goin self catered yano

I've now just emailed the accommodation office so lets see what they say

exactly, Its cheaper and you get more independance- eat what you want when you want.
You will learn to cook, which is a good life skill to have... and if you cant be bothered, you can go to a cafe or whatever at Uni or in town and get a cheap meal!!

yeh I'm living in self - catered accommodation at the minute in halls in liverpool, where I live now is like the Ricky Road style of Newcastle

looking at the prices though, if I did go self - catered Castle Leazes is roughly the same price has Victoria Halls

then again Ricky Road's is cheaper!!! thats less than what I paid this year!!..But where I'm staying now is on en - suite

But what is sharing one bathroom like

Erm... well, i know that in Windsor and Marris, you are in flats of 6, with 2 toilets and 2 showers, so really, 3 to each one.
I cant imagine it would be bad really- just like at home with your family.... thats what im expecting it to be similar to (and we have a few more than 3 people in the house!! haha)

I think self catered is TOTALLY worth it, now all you have to do is to pick which Hall you want!
Closer to the campus the better, Id say. Ricky Rd, Marris, Windsor all seem the best for me!! (although i wont fit in a Ricky Rd).

What are you going to study at Newcastle?

Yeh it sounds good, lets just hope Newcastle let me change my accommodation...

and yeh I'd be a bit worried if it was like 1 shower and 1 toilet to 6 of us but now thats gone away a little.

Ricky Road, I would fit in, but do I want another year of mayhem?!....

hmm we will see on that....which hall would you go for, on price if possible...

Im going to study a BSc in Computer Science (hopefully I can change it to CS with Internet and Network Technologies - Industrial Placement Year but we will see)

To be honest if you've seen my signature I don't even know where I will end up next year...Its down to Liverpool John Moores or Newcastle and I'm currently studying at John Moores atm!

All will be decided in a few hours from now though, I've got a meeting with my head lecturer at 12 so we will see what he says!!

I've got a good idea of where I'm going to be next year though

Im sure they will let you change it!! (both course and accomodation)

I think you should come to Newcastle (Okay, I AM slightly biased lol).

Im studying Information Systems with Business Studies with a year in industry- its RIGHT up my street!
Business and ICT were my FAVORITE subjects at college, and a subject that incorporates both is AMAZING in my books haha lol.
I like programming and code etc... but I dont want to make a living off it... plus I have a strange fetish for Databases....

Okay, not a fetish, but Im the ONLY person alive who enjoys them lol :P

You need to contact admissions.
The admissions assistant for Dr Alan Tully is Sharon Stead.
Her number is (0191) 222 6102
So, if your welcome letter was off Dr Tully, phone her and she will be able to help you. ( I think its more likley to be that, anyway)
If not, phone the University on (0191) 222 6000 and ask to be put through to UG Admissions for your course.

Then explain that you would like to change the course from Comp-Sci to Comp-Sci with Internet Technology, and they should just send it through to UCAS as a change and you can keep your offer. (That is what happened when I changed course at Manchester Met.... which I withdrawn my App from haha)

As for your accomodation, just phone the accomodation office on (0191) 222 6360,a nd jsut say you want to change the Halls youve applied to.
Due to you having a Conditional offer, as apposed to an Unconditional, they wouldnt have dealt with your applicaiton properly yet or allocated you a room, so you should be Okay on that ront too!

Yeah, when I cantacted CS Admissions, they were VERY VERY helpful, made me feel at ease and as if nothing was too much trouble.

Well, I was attracted by the reputation of the University, but also because of the people- frendliest in the country!! Then theres the countryside (I live in a village in the middle of Countryside, so im gonna feel at home lol) and plus I ahve a little bit of family up there too (All my Uni-going family went to Newcastle).
Im chuffed to bits I got in!

Hmm, what'll it be like for a red? I dont think itll be too bad.... jsut dont wear your shirt when they are playing Newcastle United and youll be reet!! haha lol.
