anyone have a citizencard?

iv got one, and i'm wondering if anyone else does and if so, do you ever have any problems with it?such as some bars refusing to accept it as valid ID etc?most places seem fine with it but it can be really frustrating if somewhere decides it could be faked, even though it has a hologram/other features.i don't drive and see no point in applying for a more expensive provisional license, and i don't have a passport(yet) so its kind of the only thing i can use!

what do you mean?do places not accept it as ID for you?

If I was on the door i'd except only driving licences/passports.

Besides, its only £20 or so for the licence which isn't too bad.

aaah i see.

as for the person who said you would only accept drivers licenses/passports, have you not been told about citizencards?they are a government initiative and accepted by the police so i kinda took that as meaning they would be reliable....plus why have a drivers license when i have no intention of driving?hmmm oh well i guess if i have any more problems ill have to get one...

The reasoning behind it is because everyone sees/knows about driving licences and passports. Your average bouncer isn't likely to know about 'citizencard' and thus its a weak form of ID.

Not too good being the only person in your group not allowed into a club :p:

well out of about 10 bars/clubs/pubs i go to, 8 of them seem to have no problems with it so it must be catching on with bouncers now.luckily i look over 18 to most people anyway so i havn't ever had that humiliation as such!but i do sometimes wonder about it.hmmm well if a bouncer ever gets funny with me over it ill go track down a policeman to fill him in

lots of places only accept driving license and passport, mostly clubs and some shops./

I used to sell alcohol and stuff and used to accept them so I know its a proper ID scheme, .. but I guess it's up to the seller/bouncer/barman/woman to decide what they accept or not.

I guess you coulkd use your birth certificate,
Why don't you have a passport?

Sadly it's actually £38 for a provisional license! Which is all very well if you want to learn to drive, but if not it's a bit steep for ID. I'm not sure about Citizencard but I've just applied for a Prove-It card (£5) as the Wetherspoons up the road from me will only accept it, a passport or a driver's license as ID. And as I have to renew my passport I'll be without it for a while so need an alternative form of ID. I'm not sure how widely recognised it is, though it does claim to be approved by the government.

When I worked in Co-op I was only meant to accept Passports or Driving license's. If I recognised the perosn from my area then I would accept a citizen card, but otherwise I didn't. There were too many checks being made.

Citizencard?? What the hell is that?? Sounds like some ID out of the back of a magazine!!

At Tesco we accept it as proof of age. Most clubs and bars I've been to in Manchester so far (not that many I admit!) only accept driving licenses and passports though.

I don't have a Citizencard but I have a "Validate UK" card saying I'm 16, when I'll be 18 and my date of birth because many of my friends think I look younger than that so I thought one may come in useful.

It's ridiculous if they don't accept these things... they should accept anything with a photograph, a date of birth and a "Pass" hologram, as that's the whole idea of this "Pass" approval thing! I can understand why many people would not have driving licenses, and if we're expected to take passports around with us then it shouldn't be my fault when it gets lost or stolen.

It doesn't help that this looks so amateur though... sure, it's plastic and has the hologram, but the contrasting colours and cheesy logo don't do anything for it.
