I remember seeing a statistic that about 70 something percent of Keble rooms had ensuite. Therefore it is more likely than not you shall find yourself living in a room with an en-suite. The allocation of rooms is done by people choosing what 'band' they want, and some bands have a higher percentage of an ensuite than others. So I'd say there is a good chance that if an ensuite is important to you could do worse than Keble.

Plus, Keble is an awesome college. It's also one of the largest colleges (iirc) so it's inevitable that you will find people similar to you, if that is one of your concerns.

I also saw somewhere this statistics. But also read in different source, that 90 percent of first years do have ensuite.
Anyway, I also like that it is big, and I liked the architechture, the look of buildings.

Just thought I'd say that New is great (it's where I have an offer from). I seem to remember my friend saying that her brother was one of very few who didn't have an en-suite in the first year as his surname is right as the end. However, that has a plus side as he got to be one of the first to choose his room for second year.

I like New college too, can't decide, which one I want more really. Do they give preference in room allocation in alphabetical order?

From what I understand first and second years are decided on a reversed ballot. So people who get worse rooms in the first year are some of the first to pick in the second. To decide the first year allocation it may be alphabetical (as I am not a student there yet, this is what I seem to have understood from that friend).
If accommodation really is that important for you then it may be worth looking at some other colleges which offer banded accommodation, in which you would get more choice in the type of room you prefer (although this might not be guaranteed). For me accommodation wasn't that important as other aspects of the college were more important, so it's really a personal decision that you make. Remember though that even if you choose a college you may not end up their, either for interviews or once you get an offer.

I had interviews and a few days staying over at New; it was lovely there very big and grand but not daunting or anything. The hall was massive and there's a lot of students there but everyone I met seemed friendly and approachable. I think I'm right in saying that most rooms at New have their own toilet/shower facilities but someone might prove me wrong on that. The location is great too. All in all I was kinda sad when they palmed me off to another college actually :frown:

What pak1994 is saying is essentially correct, although you don't actually pick your rooms for second year (I'm fairly sure you don't, I live out so may be wrong). Essentially, if you get one of the worst rooms in your first year, you will automatically get one of the best rooms in your second year, there's no picking involved. As I said before, I don't actually know anyone who doesn't have their own en-suite.

Either way you can't really lose, the majority will have en-suite/en-suite in both first and second year, but if you're unlucky enough to get one of the worst rooms in first year it'll just mean you end up with a four-poster double bed in a gigantic room with an en-suite the year after

Anybody with experience on partnered accommodation? I will be coming up in March 2014 (bad timing in the middle of the academic year) and will need partnered accommodation.
Hi
On the off chance that my results are good, does anyone know which colleges offer catered food on a pay as you go basis?

Woosta (Worcester) does :yep:
Hello

Still waiting for AS grades, but provided they're fine I'm hoping to apply this year for PPE. Obviously any of the colleges would be nice, but it'd be great to have some advice about which to apply to given the following details:

A large and beautiful college would be ideal. I'm left-leaning politically so would prefer a college with leftist tendencies but an apathetic college would be fine too. I'm from a state school so a good balance of state/private students would be nice, and accommodation for all three years would be a bonus!
Would like a relaxed and sociable atmosphere with an active JCR, and also people who would want to go clubbing and to gigs etc.

Thank you for any help you guys could offer!

Merton, Oriel, Worcester, St. John's, and most others. All colleges do, but some of the ones I haven't mentioned have a compulsory top-up amount per term.

I reckon you're describing Wadham pretty well there, except I don't think the accommodation is for all three years. Good luck

Thanks for the reply!

Did an online quiz for fun and it did recommend either Balliol or Wadham, so I shall be definitely looking into Wadham more!

Brasenose does
So as the title suggests, I'm struggling to decide between these four colleges.

They all fit my basic requirements in a college which are:
Lots of green space, good accommodation, pretty buildings, old.

I would love to have an ensuite but I'm not that bothered, kitchen wise I don't mind because id probably eat in hall - I would love to be allowed a kettle, fridge etc in my room.

Also, I'm applying for law and am quite a sporty person - if that makes any difference!

So if anyone has any insights or suggestions which way I should go - I would be incredibly grateful
My mum went to Christ Church and she loved it
Well I'm at Worcester and it seems to fit all your requirements. Lots of first years get en-suites, and practically everyone does in later years. Each person gets a small fridge in their room (or at least all first year accommodation does) and kettles are obviously allowed.

In terms of applying for law, we have a law library which is really cute - although the other colleges more than likely have this too. In terms of sports we actually have our sports facilities on site so you won't have to go very far to use them.

I absolutely adore it here, but then again everyone loves their own college
