Choosing an Oxford College

Rude in what way?

I asked for help at the desk by the entrance, and the three helpers basically blanked me and ignored my questions. Not quite sure why..
Ended up standing around just waiting until a very nice medical student came in asking if anyone wanted a tour - he was lovely.

Oh wasn't gyms sorry, a friend of mine was told that you were the only college with your own squash courts

No more accurate i'm afraid  A quick google seems to imply most colleges have them, many on-site.

In what way are you looking for the college to be impressive?
There isn't a point in trying to play the numbers game, just apply to the one that you want the most. Or, alternatively, you can make an open offer and not choose a college.

Haha, if only it were that simple
Well, as of today I am going to New college in October, and I would say that definitely fulfils your requirements...

That's a shame. Will you be able to visit on the September open day as this might let you get more of a feel of the place?
Well, if you can't be tempted...

kind of forget you're waving the flag of whom..Worcester?
nevermind lah, if i had the luck to be bonded with it that would be awesome
the reason i don't make it my first choice is because it's too popular and competitive as I thought:redface:

They're the best kind of people :yep:
Subscribing to this thread in the (vain) hope that applicants won't keep stipulating 'old buildings' as one of their criteria. Seriously, the modern colleges like St Catherine's are just as good in their teaching, sometimes more practical in what they can offer for accommodation, and you can go visit the old colleges any time. I encourage people to widen their horizons because you can get the 'Oxford experience' in places other than Christ Church or Worcester  I've had a fantastic three years at Catz so I'd love if more people would consider it.

(Plus I didn't freeze to death in the winter. Central heating is a pretty damn big plus.)

Hi, I'm sure this has already been raised, but I just wanted to know which colleges have access to actual kitchens in first year. I know eating in hall is a big part of the whole experience, just I want to cook my own food too sometimes!

So far I've heard that St John's and Somerville are good in this respect? Thank you in advance

Bit late, but all Merton students have kitchen access including ovens and freezers and other exciting things.

You're right about Somerville being brilliant in absolutely every way :colondollar:, including this one , but I'm sure we're not the only ones - pretty much all colleges offer meals on a pay-as-you-go basis and provide self catering facilities as an alternative.
