What are people's experiences of christ church @ oxford?

Very grand, big grounds, very touristy. The medics seem to work extremely hard. Porters are very anal, but maybe nicer to their own students. What do you want to know?

I think gut feeling is more important than any sports ground or garden.

'Gut feeling' is just derived from whether you were attracted to the person that gave you a tour how sunny it was when you went there. Logic ftw :yep:

Ha ha. Having given lots of tours for my college recently, it will be interesting to see the applications statistics for next year. Perhaps New College will be up. :hubba:

Now that I think of it, a few of the applicants did ask for my contact details actually ...

Vague question - what are you interested in specifically? Its centrally located, average student number but small site. Second years live away by head of the river mostly (not too far away but not ideal by any means). They used to have a really famous and good student-run bar which was unfortunately closed this year.

Be sure to check whether the increase was due to male or female applicants :hubba:

I got the gut feeling for my college on my own, in the rain ... I had done my research beforehand though, and was just visiting the shortlist chosen on logic

My charms work on both.

In all seriousness, I visited my college on a pretty gloomy day, actually, and with a friend rather than an attractive and accommodating tour guide. But the 'gut feeling' was still there. And I've never regretted it.

Does anyone have a list of which colleges offer student kitchens (for all three years of your course, regardless of where you're accomodated)?
Hi,
I'm applying for French sole and I'm finding it hard to pick a college. I visited a couple on the open day but didn't have time to see them all.
This is my list:
Brasenose
Lincoln
Worcester
St Anne's

Brasenose, Lincoln and Worcester I went to visit and at the first two I met French lecturers both of whom I think were great and right now I'm thinking Brasenose but I'm not sure. Does anyone study French at any of these? I quite like the location of all of these apart from St Anne's and the building of St Anne's isn't particularly pretty but I've heard good things about the professors so I don't know
Thanks

I am applying for math in oxford. And I havent decided which college to apply.
I prefer a college that is close to the city centre, and have good facilities especially the kitchen and JCR with resonable price.

So can anybody told me which college is suit for me?

THANKS

IN HURRY~
They're not that different really - if you want one right in the centre, take your pick from Lincoln, Jesus, New, Hertford, Brasenose, Exeter (look at a map to see what I've forgotten). You can check websites to see general kitchen facilities, but there's normally a large element of luck as it depends where your room is.
Hey I'm a prospective student looking to apply to take History at Oxford in 2011... narrowed my choices down by using certain criteria to Univ and LMH... was wondering if anyone could help me out?

First thing is, being a history student and all, is it that much of an issue where LMH is located? I mean i swear it's not even that far it just looks far out on a map. I walk to school every day which is about half an hour - is LMH's locations that bad? Is it near all of its key resources like its playing fields etc?

The other thing I noticed was that LMH serves no food on a saturday. Probably a dumb question, but is this a problem?

Also interested to know what people say about the general feel of the two colleges, and what the integration of first years is like. I like the idea of forming bonds within your first year, but don't want it to be separated from rest of college too much. Are the JCR and accomodation for first years nice here? and do more people go to formal hall or the earlier sittings? people's opinions on the layout of the colleges with jcr/rooms/buildings/etc affecting the social aspect may help me out too!

the other thing was i'm just quite keen to know what both are like for sport - i like playing rugby, but also football, and probably would like to play for some jokes teams too - hopefully a tour in there somewhere? haha and yeah i enjoy music too but I'm not a classically trained singer or anything. a practice room snds good to me, but choir would be fun to get involved with too.

Any feedback is much appreciated

Univ of course

In all seriousness, it doesn't really matter that much, both are probably great. I'd guess LMH is about a 15 min walk from the centre, which would bother me but if you don't mind it's fine. I think the sports fields are more on the south of centre, but I could be wrong there.
Since I haven't actually started yet I can only tell you what I know from the Open Day and interviews, but I really loved the atmosphere of Univ, it's why I applied there. I don't know about sports but Univ has the biggest non-auditioning choir in Oxford.
Good luck choosing & applying!
I think I'm going to apply for Christ Church. There's lots of pretty buildings.
I was interviewed at Univ this year, I didn't get in but someone asked me "you didn't go to a grammar school?' with a face like  and I regularly had to explain the idea of going to college rather than sixth form. I know no different, there are no such thing as grammar schools or sixth forms where I live. So depends how willing you are to put up with that kind of thing. However once I got talking to these people they were all really friendly and the atmosphere was pretty good. Interviews are a bit intense. Funnily enough I'm reapplying this year to LMH!!
I want to apply to do Biomedical science. It's a new subject for 2011......
I am thinking New College, University college, Oriel or Queen's at the moment.
I want a college that is friendly
3 years of accomodation would be nice...... but not essential
Nice JCR/bar
reasonably central
Good food (preferably pay as you go)
Nice accomodation
Internet in all rooms
Wasbasin in all rooms (unless there is an ensuite obviously)
I appreciate it may not be possible to fulfill al of my criteria, but as many as possible would be good
Also if anyone knows where I could find information about how many biomedical students there would be at each college please let me know, because it is a new course, there is very little about it. (Edit : I have found this information on some of the college pages, but the information all in one place would be a bonus if anyone knows where I might find that)
Thanks

Is it worth bearing in mind the subject tutor of the college you're applying for i.e. should I aim to apply somewhere with a tutor whose research interests are along the lines of my own?
Also do you receive lectures primarily from your subject tutor at your college? I'm applying for Experimental Psychology, by the way.
