Brasenose looks lovely, although I've heard that it's quite Tory (not sure how true this is?!)

It's not especially Tory. I guess it's relatively right-wing compared to places like Wadham or Balliol, but at whatever college you go to there's a spread of political views. David Cameron did study there though.

I love Balliol! The only thing that puts me off is that it's pretty popular, so if I was pooled there's a small chance that I'd get lost in the pooling system, or assigned a college that I don't really like much (though obviously any offer from Oxford would be fantastic).

Hahaa everywhere has their stereotypes, not sure where our Tory one has come from, although obviously there are gonna be some wherever you go! But I am definitely not that way politically inclined, and there are people from all over the political spectrum that I know of here (from wayyy far left to pretty far right), so it's quite a nice mixture! Politics is one of those random things which comes up in late night procrastination discussions, and it does seem that there is a pretty broad variety here. I think a few places the stereotypes do play out a bit, like Wadham for some reason does tend to attract more liberal/leftie students just as it has built up that reputation, but I think for any given college it just depends who gets in that year.

Its because bnc has the highest proportion of privately-educated students

They're all fairly popular.
I am trying to decide between Hertford, Christ church, Jesus St.John's Worcester and New. It would be good if there was a practice room with a piano so I could keep up my playing but apart from that I'm not fussy- Any suggestions?

My slightly biased suggestion would be to add Mansfield to your list. It has a beautiful chapel in which there is a piano that can be booked by students, if they can hold a tune or better. It's just up the road from New so easy to include in your itinerary.

I got negged for saying there's a piano in the chapel at Mansfield College

Wond'rin how you came to narrow it down to just those two? They aren't that similar to each other, in many ways.

Merton! It's awesome in every single way. Christ Church is rubbish in comparison.

On a slightly more serious note, without knowing anything about you and what you want, it's impossible to say. But still, Merton all the way.
St Johns!!!! Richest by far  ............
You might have done this before, and it won't change anything, but there's no harm in trying...

I got:
(100%) 1: Christ Church (1546)
(90%) 2: Magdalen College (1458)
(86%) 3: Merton College (1264)
(81%) 4: St. John's College (1555)
(79%) 5: University College (1249)
(74%) 6: Balliol College (1263)
(74%) 7: Jesus College (1571)
(74%) 8: Trinity College (1555)
(72%) 9: Lincoln College (1427)
(72%) 10: New College (1379)

Third place...not bad. But Christ Church and Magdalen?!
Wooo 100% St. John's. Which is odd, that's where I applied at Cambridge. Spooky.
Exeter College

(100%) 1: Balliol College (1263)

(97%) 4: New College (1379)
(96%) 5: Magdalen College (1458)
