Embarrassing Q

hey,
sorry this is a stupid q coz i know what it says on the box etc etc. but if u leave a tampon in for say 9+ hours, how likely is it that you would have probs???

I remember my mum telling me that she left it in too long and ended up with a bad infection. That wasn't an enormous amount of time but about 8 hours or so after she should've taken it out.

exactly - don't do it if you can avoid it, the consequences can be not nice at all - possibly an infection, of varying degrees of severity, or possibly TSS as caffecooki said.

Not necessarily for definite. But the chance is increased the longer it's there. That's all.

TSS is actually very very rare, it's just also very very serious.

Can't you also get TSS from always using tampons rather than somtimes using towels?

no - it's not to do with how often you use them.

you have to leave it in a relatively long period of time to get TSS (no pun intended) You should always use tampons of appropriate absorbance and change them every four hours, just to prevent ickyness. If you use the right absorbance for your flow,the tampon will bleed through before you reach that stage anyway, should you forget.

Oh gonnabavet, you could've at least mentioned that the 'embarrassing' bit was about girly stuff! By the title, I was assuming the thread was about a strange sexual misdemeandor or something not about...*feels queasy, puts down jam doughnut*
