sleeping and tiredness

last night i couldnt get to sleep until 6am and got up at 9.00 am but i was tired so went back to bed at 12.00. Everytime i tried to get to sleep i could feel my heart beating or something and tried to wake up again but couldn't, i opened my eyes a bit but it was like my body was fighting to keep them shut and i couldnt move anything, i didnt want to got to sleep cause i was a bit scared but eventually i could move myself. i had a drink and tried to get to sleep again but the same thing happened
i wanted to go to sleep but didnt want this panicky thing to keep happening. its happened before at times but does anyone know what it is?

i eventually got 6 hours sleep though lol (8 in total from previous sleep)but still have bags under my eyes and are a bit tired
anyone experienced this

is that a illness or common?

More common than you might surmise from the acuteness of its symptoms. I think it perhaps more of a syndrome, than an 'ilness' per se; that said, it's hardly my field of expertise (could such a thing even be said to exist).

Out of interest, do you suffer from panic attacks?

Heh even doing a couple of hours of physics revision (until 12:30am) wasn't enough to get me to sleep last night. Ended up lying in bed, awake until ~3am.
