Severe period pain!!!!!! [girls only!]

Hii yesterday I suffered the worst period pain I've ever experienced! It was so bad it almost took my breath away. I felt really sick and dizzy and I felt like I was going to faint. I took a really strong painkiller but this did not help at all it just made me feel even dizzier.
I ended up roling around on the bathroom floor crying for two-three hours, while my sister was bringing me drinks :p:
Anyway, a few hours later i felt this strong sharp pain just above my left hip. It was so strong I couldn't stand up straight or walk very far and I was in pain for most of the night (again painkillers didn't work!) and the next day my left side feels really tight and still quite sore. This is the first time I have experienced this, could it be linked to my period pain...? It kind of felt like a pulled muscle..? Or is it the fact that I was sat in an awkward position all day because of the period pain..?

Does anyone know anything that could help my pains and does anyone else suffer it this bad?
Also can anyone suggest what the pain above my left hip could be... I'm quite worried.....and yes I am going to go to the doctors soon thanks xx

hey you should get your doc to prescribe you mefenamic acid tablets.. it'll help you soooo much!!! hope this helps X
I usually get bad pain in one side when i'm about to lose a clot. I hate the dizzy feeling and have often been known to roll around crying lol. Your muscles are basically contracting to push the blood clot out so it could feel sore or pulled.
You're right to go to the docs! I had this type of pain but it was a symptom of something more serious (emergency admission to hospital serious!)

It's the kind of thing that could be something or nothing and yes, it could just be you body shifting a clot!

I hope all is well.
Jesus that doesn't sound normal. There's something wrong I think (but I'm not a doctor, I dunno!) If I was you I'd go to the hospital; rolling on the floor in agonising pain? NOT NORMAL. Go hospital. Not even doctors, but the hospital.

Nicely put.

pain does vary between each cycle, but if there is an erractic shift than go see the doctor man (or woman, wouldn't want to be negged for sexism or anything stupid like that:rolleyes: )

LOL! i agree go the docs but i get pains all down my legs! And i can barely stand up! Its awful

I usually take some paracetomal, and use HEAT PADS! THEY ARE REALLY GOOD, you know the ones for your back ect but one on your belly and one on your back the pain should ease up!

You can get them at bodycare 2 for 99p!!

Herbal tea is very soothing during the pain, and a hot water bottle can be comforting as well.

make sure you are on a good diet especially 2 weeks before your period is due, loads of fried stuff may make it feel worse.
I have them horribly bad.

I went to the doctors and they prescribed me Transamzyic Acid (sorry if thats not spelt right as well as some stronger dosed painkillers. I also had the alternative of going on the Pill.

I took the Trans tablets and painkillers, and as long as I remember to take them - the period pain goes.

It also sounds a tad like Endermetriosis as well? I got tested for that because I had all the symptoms.

A trip to the doctors won't hurt and it will make you feel tonnes better!

I have no idea what the pain in your hip is. It could be related, it could not be.

I suffer exactly the same symptoms during my period and have done for years. I'm usually sick, sometimes faint, the thought of some foods and their smells make me ill. I have chronic back pain and my legs ache. I am emotional, my stomach feels like it's being stabbed, I bloat...bla bla bla...It's not a nice experience! You could go to the doctor and ask for some help. It has never helped me, but everyone is different

The only thing that marginally takes the pain away is Nurofen; I think it's the Ibruprofen in them...Poor you, I know how you feel. Do visit the doctor though, they could help you

This.

OP, I used to experience similar symptoms when I was on my period so I saw my GP. We tried so many different kinds of painkillers, none worked. He suggested the Pill but the whole possibility of gaining weight freaked me out so he suggested Mefnamic Acid, supposedly the strongest painkiller for period pain you can get without going on the Pill. Works an absolute treat, I hardly get period pain anymore and when I do, it's bearable!

I used to get pains like that, so bad they often caused me to pass out. I got rid of the pain by going on the pill  I'd pop to your docs and see what they suggest!
ye u prob should go to the doctor and get somethin for it but i dont think its terribly abnormal - but the doctor will confirm that for you.

When i was younger (ah i feel old - 23) i dreaded that time because thats how i felt all the time. the pain in my thighs got so bad i was barely able to stand and the pain sometimes actually made me sick/faint! awful! but i went on the pill and got none of that afterwards! what a delight!

hope u get somethin for it thats stronger than paramcetomal because when u feel like that paracetamol are like smarties

There isn't really a norm when it comes to level of pain, I know of girls who are hardly bothered by it at all, but also others, myself included, who get it really bad. That said, you'll tend to find there is a "normal" for you, once your periods regulate and if the pain your getting now is a lot worse than usual, and you're getting extra pains, then I would go speak to a GP about it, at least to calm your concerns if nothing else =)

While I'm not a huge fan of reaching straight for painkillers at the first sign of pain...it's what I end up doing. If I don't take some kind of painkiller at the first sign of cramp, I will more than likely be curled up on the floor in pain (but I can be a whimp, so y'know!). I take codamol (codeine & paracetamol, there are various brand names for it, but Boots own is probably cheapest) first & then 2 hrs later ibuprofen, alternating every 2hrs. Then a heat patch or hot water bottle for comfort and some gentle exercise when I feel I can manage it.
Oh my, you sound like you get pains terribly!
I'm just starting to get cramps today, i really hate them. It's such a constant pain that doesn't shift!

What i was going to say though anyway, is that perhaps your doctor can prescribe you stronger painkillers if it's that bad. I'm on the pill to help mine, and while they are still bad they are much better than before.
Your hip pain probably is to do with either ovulating or clotting. I get very sharp pains in my side around my period which might be similar.
Anyhoo, a trip to the docs might be worthwhile
I get cramps above my left hip regularly with period pain, but it's also where I get my IBS cramps. I know periods can affect your digestive system, hormones flying all over the place, and everything, which can lead to even more cramps (stupid human body).

What painkillers did you take? Something like Ibuprofen can help stop the cramps, and you can combine it with paracetamol. Or perhaps something stronger like Diclofenac/Voltarol or Co-Codamol? It's best to speak to your GP/Pharmacist before taking anything you're not sure about or haven't taken before though!

Not sure if that's totally helpful, but I thought I'd put it out there.
Were you doing anything strenuous at the time the pain started?

I remember once exercising on the first day of my period. I began to feel sick, so I got off the bike and went to lie down in bed. Suddenly I had the most crippling pain all over. I thought that was it, that I was dying. I tried to call out to my family to tell them some last words but I couldn't even make a sound :p: Then it was gone.

Bad times.

For the first couple of days of my period i normally end up similar to that - in bed, constantly moving around, crying my eyes out because of the pain. Thankfully it only last a couple of days. :frown:

But yeah, i should go to the doc, but i don't get periods all that often, so it's not worth it, heh. But if you start getting that pain on a monthly basis, then defo get some treatment for it

I sometimes get severe period pains, but not that severe. Personally, my advice is to take painkillers, preferably Ibuprofen or panadol, on the day that your periods start. I've done time many times and it works . If it doesn't work, visit your GP/Doctor
