I have an unconditional offer from Stanford and a conditional offer (38 pts, easy; 776 at higher level, damn hard) from Cambridge. Where would YOU go?

If I was British, I'd definitely go to Cambridge. If I was American, I'd probably go to Cambridge too.

What subject is it for? And where are you from?

I know this doesn't help, but, you can't really lose - they're both pretty amazing universities. I guess the conditional/unconditional thing complicates it a bit, but, its quite a luxury just having such a decision to make! Congrats

Yeah, where are you from? Personally I'd go with Cambridge, probably mostly because I don't like California, not because of any other relative merits of either institution. Weighing those, actually, for me it'd probably still be Cambridge.

What subjects are you doing? Higher level and standard level.

A novel comparison, indeed.

Cambridge, if you feel you can make the terms of the offer; otherwise, Stanford.

Both instiutions are very prestigious- world class. I've actually visited both and to be totally honest I liked Stanford better. I currently live in a warm climate and so Stanford's was ideal. It has palm trees lining the main drive and alot of old-spanish archietecture. The campus is hugh but at the same time cosy. The people are very friendly too.
Cambridge is also nice but too gloomy and gothic for my liking. UK whether does not particularly appeal to me. Everyone also seemed to be more reserved.
I do feel that I perfer the American education system and the flexibility to choose many different courses while still completing my chosen degree. So you just have to find out what you prefer.
However, saying all this, I will end up in the UK for my university education. The main reason being because of my course- law! England is a commonwealth country which means a degree from here will let me practice in many many countries bar most states in the USA. If I wasn't going to do law I would probably pick the States for any other degree (bar medicine).
And if you're worried about studying for a year longer in the US don't be. IB will give you uni credits which means you can complete your degree in a shorter time. Also you can stay on during the summer after your first year to complete the course quicker- an option I'm not sure is available in the UK.
Asses the pros and cons for each and come to your own conclusions. You must be amazing to have offers from two top institutions. I am sure achieving 776 at higher level is a task you will be able to confidently cope with.

If you can pay the fees, like warm climates, prestige and plenty of course choice: stanford

If you value a prestigious ancient university, beautiful old architecture and tradition: cambridge

God that would be a difficult choice!
