Is it more than IBS?

My man is really starting to worry me. Bascically he has always been v. skinny and also suffered from frequent diarrhoea (up to five times a day). There is never any blood in it, the only other symptoms are lethargy and occasional stomach cramps. He never complains about it, and says it's probably just irritable bowel. We tried cuting out wheat and gluten which improved things, but there's still diarrohea. We tried cutting out dairy, nuts, soya.... the only time he had normal bowels was when we lived on tinned tomatoes, rice, chickpeas and vegetables. However, it didn't last, and he is probably missing out on all sorts of nutrients. We kept a stool chart and food chart for two months and experimented, but could not make any real patterns in the events. It's really worrying, and I think he should go and have a colonoscopy. His family have various wheat allergies, but that's it. He can't cut out EVERYTHING. It's driving me mad!! Any advice welcome!!

have you been to a doctor? If so what did they say?

lessthanthree should be able to help you! Oh wait, they never covered that in Cosmo Girl...

oooo MIAOW!

yes best advice is to go to the Doctor, they can send him to a specialist for food and other allergy testing. But it doesn't sound like a food allergy. Food allergies generally bring people out in rashes. It sounds like something internal, it which case you should go to the Doctor asap

hope he gets better

No they don't! I'm a coeliac, and that doesn't give you a rash. There's 2 types of reaction: the rash, swelling up and can't breathe one, and the digestive problems one.

Anyway Juice you should tell him to go to a doctor. Cutting out food groups can be dangerous, as you don't always get all the nutrients you need. Also, it is hard to know you've cut out stuff completely. Wheat and gluten can be "hidden" in so many different things under lots of names.

Mmmmmm k. so not true.

It could be IBS. I would imagine it might be crohns disease myself, or coeliac disease. Go to the doctor and get a colonoscopy to find out.

It could be but then everyone's right. you need a doctor's opinion.

Thanks, I was wondering about Crohns disease too, hopefully it won't be, but it's good to have some back up on the colonoscopy debate. I think I will comtinue to persuade him.

Cheers!

I'm working on it, only problem is, he is a doctor... and I think he is really playing it down and not being very objective. If he was his own patient I'm sure he'd have reccomended a colonoscopy. I have asked him if he will go to the GP if not just to set my mind at rest, and he agreed.
