How long does it take to start losing weight?

I'm getting increasingly disillusioned with my drive to get thin. It's been 2 weeks since I started eating well and exercising and yet I'm still at the same weight. I'm back at the weight I was during my 'fat' phase a couple of years ago. I'm getting increasingly depressed about it and don't really know what to do now.

I need to lose a stone but I just can't see it happening. Any ideas? I mean other than what to eat and to exercise- I know all that stuff, I'm not stupid. Anyone know any tips for really simple things that would make a difference? Or recommend a diet that worked for them (have considered several but don't know what to pick since they all contradict one another on some level)

I know there's been loads of threads like this recently, sorry to bore you all again but I need help.

You need to create a calorie deficit - 'burning' more than you eat.

First off i'd start eating smaller, more regular meals - to increase your metabolism.

What are you eating?
What exercise are you doing?

I wouldn't bother with diets - most people put the weight back on. and most have consequences.

you probs know all this but eating around 1200 calories a day (and no less), and burning 500 calories 4 times a wee should help you loose around 2lbs a week...
but as you said, this is probs stuff you already know- and i haven't tried it so i wouldn't know how easily it works

has anyone been getting heat magazine? In there they have a bums, tums and thighs programme and some of the ideas are quite good like brushing your teeth after you've eaten that way you don't start nibbling!
If you only need to lose a stone then i'm guessing you're not very big, so the weight may take longer to drop off. Just stick at it. How mcuh exercise are you doing a day? A good idea is to get one of those stepometer's (i think you need to do 10,000 steps a day? ) that should keep you going.

Do slimming world diet.
Seriously you will lose at least 2lb a week if you stick to your sins. You can still eat loads and the 2lbs is without exercise, do exercise too and you will lose a stone in no time.
You can buy the packs on ebay for under a tenner. Its easy peasy and healthy.

I lost just under 3 stone within 6 months and I've kept it off for nearly a year now.
It kicked started me and Ive maintained with exercise and healthy eating.

Not really, it depends. If it's lean then it shouldn't make much difference.
Stocking up on fruit and veg including plenty of water is the most important thing.

Depends what meat you eat and how you cook it.
Also depends what veggie subs you are using.
Some veggie substitutes can have up to 5 times more fat in them than others.
Bastards!!

Well I'm trying to stay away from refined sugars (had a lapse this evening and had pasta). Breakfast is usually 2 slices of toast (wholemeal or white depending on what's out) with butter (oops). Lunch varies, today was scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Usually i make sumthing up out of some crisproll things with soft cheese and fruit and salady stuff or sometime cereal. Dinner is fish or chicken (grilled) with roasted veg and cabbage usually. Not a bad diet, doubt I could change much more and actually stick to it, especially as I'm revising at the moment.

I religiously do 60 sit ups a day at least and have been going for a run as often as possible. It's working out at about 3 times a week but is only a mile a time. Sometimes run about ouside with a football for a revision break.

Botton line- too many carbs, not enough exercise, I know so don't tell me!

I think he meant 'several' and not 'seven'; might be as few as three.

yeah - I ment several!
Still, it's enough. i doubt that you need to loose more than 3st to be a normal weight, unless you are seriously obese to start with, which I doubt. If you are obese, than a GP should give some advice and also run tests in case of disorders such ath Hypothyroidism.

Id have something a bit different for breakfast, if youre going for the 3 meals a day option then you need to eat slightly more at each meal, if youre aiming for 1200 calories(which seems to be a number thrown about by you girls a lot) then clearly thats 400 calories per meal, also remember that your metabolism is faster in the morning than in the evening, so have the bigger higher calorie meals in the morning and the smaller ones in the evening.

As far as exercise goes, the situps will be doing next to nothing for you, instead of doing the situps religiously, do the running religiously, and you really need to be doing more than a mile at a time. Make it at least 30 mins, 5-7 times a week, it might seem boring, it might seem hard, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes, and nobody said losing weight was going to be easy.

Also extra fitness will make you feel much better and healthier, without going into the mechanics of things too much, the fitter you become, and more exercise you do, the better your body becomes at using fat for fuel rather than other sources, so basically, the longer you keep doing regular exercise, the more fat you will lose. You dont have to be running marathons everyday for this happen, but the key is to do it regularly.

Ah yes Hypothyroidism... what a total pain in the arse!!! Has made me put on a ton of weight which I can't shift no matter what I do and since they gave me pills for it i'm putting on even more weight I rekon I'm gonna explode soon!!!

You shouldn't worry about your weight, no one worth knowing will care about your appearance due to weight issues and there's no reason to care yourself as long as you're fit. Also you shouldn't expect weight loss after 2 weeks, especially if you're doing sit ups.

Just eat healthily and do a healthy amount of exercise and you'll be fine. Perhaps take up a sport, badminton's a very good one for aerobic and athletic fitness.

Finally, keep a log of what you do and eat, that way you wont lapse, you'll be working towards something. But don't concentrate on weight or looks, it's the long term that counts and that's how fit you are and how good you feel!

I do worry about my weight, I don't feel or look good because of it.

And whoever said about needing to lose 3 stone to be normal, I'm only looking to lose a stone. If I lost 3 I'd probably die!
