Warts

OK I am a 19 year old female, and I'm currently on a gap year.

The problem I have is warts. They are disgusting, embarassing and unfortunately spreading all over my hands!

I have many around the nails, in betweeen fingers, on the palms and fingertips. There are so many and it is so noticeable I have developed a social phobia, I cannot do anything anymore in situations where people may see my hands.

I have no idea why it suddenly happened, and I am afraid that if I go to the doctors there is nothing they can do.

I am meant to be starting uni in september but I am 99% certain that if the problem isnt sorted I will be forced to drop out :frown: .

I know it may sound pathetic but I can honestly say it is ruining my life. What can anyone suggest?

Thanks, Katie xxx

Go to the doctors?

GO TO THE DOCTORS!!!!!!

Seriously they can do stuff. They'll freeze them i think.

There may be an underlying problem as to why you've got so many.
If you don't do anything about them there's a chance it'll get worse.

omg i know i had one on my toe!!!sounds weird but i was sooo embarrassed to see the doc it was big and gross.

but i swear by this stuff i found in the medicine cupboard at home, Podophyllin spirit. its sooo good it doesnt hurt i applied it 5 days and the wart i'd had for years went away!! get it from the doc. also see the doc he can refer u to dermatology to find out why u get so many

Do you bite your nails? If so, stop! And dry your hands throughly after washing, don't suck your thumb/fingers etc.

You could go and ask your pharmcist, but if you have so many it probably would be better to go to your doctor

Thanks guys, just the thought of walking into the doctors room and having him inspect my hands makes me feel physically sick....but I know I will have to do it.. :frown:

Well they have gel, you apply it to the wart and then it forms like a white barrier, but I found it to be a complete waste of money

i used the white stuff. it was crap and didnt work. use the podophyllin paint. it works miracles but u can only get it from the doc

and pls pls pls have confidence and faith in yourself to get this sorted by a doc. i had bad pigment on my upper back, upper arms and across the top of the bust. im black and my skin reacted badly to something so for like 8 yrs i had light white freckles on my dark brown skin and it was so embarassing i coundlnt wear low tops or t shirts or anything nice, only granny sweaters. but finally i got to the doc and they gave me a dermatology appointment, im gonna have light therapy starting in june!!
all that fear and embarassment now i c its a waste of time. so go for it!!

You know i had a verrruca on my foot once. hurt like hell. i ignored it, tries cutting the skin off it, and still it kept growing. Its not there anymore
Verrucas are caused by a type of human papillomavirus. So are hand warts.
It causes your own cells to multiply faster than they would normally, producing a wart. Your immune system can't actually see the virus, so can't fight it.
But there are ways to make the virus seen. One of which is 'freezing' the wart. Freezing kills the infected (and non infected) cells, but can be directed onto a wart. This also not only makes the wart much smaller, but allows the immune system to detect it. And it may then fight it.

If you have warts all over your hands its undoubtably all the same virus. Ergo, if you beat one wart, the others will disappear too.
In other words go get a couple frozen off...and in all likelyhood all your hand warts will disappear!!!

If this doesn't work there are some other treatments using 'interferon' (dunno if on the NHS) which is applied to the warts and again allows the immune system to 'see' and also itself directly fights the virus.

Go to your doctors, DEMAND some wart freezing action, and point out how miserable this is making you.
hope that helps

God I wish I could. I have very low confidence/self esteem as it is.

I would be a nervous wreck, and if he said ''there is nothing we can do'' I would probably just be like ''Ok thanks, bye''

I know its utterly pathetic but its the way I am, can I actually DEMAND treatment from him?

Go to the doc, ask for an appointment with a dematologist who will freeze the b*ggers off using nitrogen, ooooowwwww!

I had mini warts on the backs of my hands when I was a kid...mini ones are just fleshy coloured and round, they dont look obvious so they never worried me too much - when they were diagnosed they said they could do a treatment involving a needle or I could wait for them to go of my own accord and sure enough they did. I think they are very different to normal warts but I know I felt better knowing there was a solution if I ever came to hate them. Im pretty sure your doctor can give you some sort of remedy, so good luck finding the courage to go. If it helps take a friend..they dont even have to go into the doctors room with you, its just nice to have someone there in the waiting room to distract you from worrying. Univsersity will probably add to your confidence and help you learn to interact with other if it pleases you to do so. I wish you the best sorting this out for yourself and giving yourself the option of a cure.

dont worry about going to the drs. just remember theyve seen it all before, they wont be grossed out or anything. and it could be worse...it could be genital warts, at least you only have to show the dr your hands!

Thanks guys I think I'm gonna bite the biscuit and make an appointment.

Can I just tell the receptionist it is a private matter?
