Was that the same night as the, erm, lady pulling event?

What could possibly have been so bad that they said?!?

I wasn't at Miss Clare this year, but last year was bad enough (cucumber fellatio and all). I did, however, arrive in the bar afterwards in time to escort one of the contestants (one of my friends) to Cindies, whilst still in full drag. Needless to say he was absolutely legless; unfortunately the queue was so long we didn't get in, and so we have some delightful pictures of him passed out on our landing instead

No, The Gimp was the same night as the Lady Pulling Event but Miss Sidney was a separate affair.

You really don't want me to go into the specifics of what was said, plus I'd be censored and probably arrested if I did, but let's just say that Miss Sidney 2005's speech involved periods, lesbians and lamp-posts. I'm told that some of the other, less religious contestants came out with even worse. I can't think of a single Miss Sidney contestant who has been able to stand at the end of the night, so you did well to get your friend to Cindies! Miss Peterhouse was a much tamer affair, I'm very pleased to say. It was also a damn sight funnier.

I think Miss Clare 2004 is a first year arch & anther, I vaguely remember him telling me about it just before a supervision on Sex and Gender!

Yes. A group of first year lads get volunteered to dress up in drag and have a 'beauty' contest, involving copious quantities of alcohol and vomit.

I've carefully arranged to be out of college for each Miss Sidney so far and I am sure I shall continue so to do!

It actually varies considerably between colleges. I've probably been to the tamest and the worst competitions, so let's compare:

At Peterhouse any guy can join in simply by dressing up as a woman for the Miss Peterhouse bop. At the end of the night there's a beauty parade, they give a comedy name and answer two questions. This was hysterical - some of the answers were fantastic, including special mention to "Chastity" who promised to give all Petreans "the right to bear arms".

At Miss Sidney, 5 freshers are nominated, are given lots of alcohol to drink on an empty stomach and are then put on show in the bar. They have to sing, parade round the room, tell mingy stories/fantasies, complete drinking challenges, play games involving bananas and/or sexual positions, and are then stripped. Only one contestant in the history of Miss Sidney has not thrown up on stage, and the evening usually ends with all the contestants passing out in the bar in front of the audience. Sound like your idea of fun? Animals get treated better than this.

Reminds me of pie and pint, where contestants race to drink 5 pints, and eat 5 pies, and as far as I could tell, some random bananas and crackers and things. It was the most violent, debauched thing I've seen in my life. Puke flying absolutely everywhere. Quite seriously the only reason I didn't get hit by the random vomit is because I watched from behind one of the pillars in cellars. Then the rankest thing at the end when they lifted up the bin bags of vomit to dispose of them, you could see literally gallons of it! :s-smilie:

Oooh, that's just nasty. At least ours are volunteers, some rather too willing. And they don't get stripped. They are allowed as much free alcohol at the bar before the competition as they like, but don't actually have to do drinking games as part of it.

Re. my story above, here is one of the other contestants who I mentioned earlier, passed out on my staircase. Nice.

I missed Pie and Pint this year Lex, who won?

the winner was a cheating first year from girton =P it was widely acknowledged that he tipped his pints in the bin and spat out the pies =P

yes this is something we need to make clear to anyone who's worried about it: you are NOT obliged to take part in any college debauchery if you don't want to. there are many ways of having fun during the term, if traumatising the whole of your college by dressing in drag and competing in 'beauty' contests isn't your thing, then fair enough- nobody will force you to do anything. people are always ASKED whether they want to take part in things like this, and nobody will think any worse of you if you refuse.

as for watching such events- again, don't feel you have to, there are bound to be other people who will feel the same way, so either hang out with them for that night/find something more worthwhile to do-again, nobody is going to force you to come to these things

There is nothing more worthwhile than watching these eveents - they are a great excuse to not do any work and not to be made to feel guilty about the fact that you're in the bar while other people are doing work.
