Counter Strike Condition Zero freezes when loading

After I reformat my laptop a few months ago, I have reintsalled Counter Strike/Condition Zero. When I load it, it just freezes on the CS startup screen, and it won't load the main menu (e.g. new game, new multiplayer game, options, quit, etc...).

When I first installed the game on the laptop in 2006, this problem didn't happen before.

I have the latest graphics drivers and all that. It still doesn't work.

Not yet. I will do that now. The only Windows Update is the .NET framework 3.5

I don't think that will make a difference.

I think it may be best to make a post in steampowered where you'll probably get a more help than tsr.. (no offence to tsr), but steampowered forums are designed for questions like this.
