I recently started taking the contraceptive pill. I was advisied by my doctor to take the first one on the first day of my period. So on what i thought was the first day (i did notice blood, and it was on the right day) I took one. However, I haven't noticed any bleeding for a couple of days since then! eek! maybe i started taking them too early? is this going to mess everything up?

no it won't mess it up. you should use another form of contraception (ie condoms) for the first 7 days of taking it and after that you will be protected by the pill. it won't mess up anything else. if you take it on the first day of your period you will be protected immediately, otherwise it will take 7 days.

if you're not sure it's better to be safe than sorry but apart from that you're fine

thanks . But the problem is I'm not sure if it WAS the first day of my period!

Then it probably is. You've just given your body a considerably larger-than-average dose of hormones, it might be a bit confused!

that's what i'm saying - it doesn't matter if it was or wasn't, just use barrier contraception for the next 7 days then after that you're in the clear!
doesnt really matter, just keep taking it for the 28 days. i noticed that after taking it on the 1st day of my pd it stopped my pd so don worry

but can i warn you, i was on the pill for about 5 yrs and i went from 7 1/2 stone to 8 1/2 to 9 stone. i just came off it about 2 months ago and i lost a stone already.
so be prepared for weight gain. it says on the instructions you might put on weight and YES IT IS TRUE im a right fatty!!

actually you can lose weight on the pill too. Everything is explained in the booklet inside the package.
BUT it also gives you breasts apparently - someone in my class at school has gone from a B to an E! I'm so jealous!
Thanks guys! reassured!

and i've been on it for 3 years and put no weight on, nor have my breasts grown at all. with your argument, i could claim that these occurrences are coincedental. but i know they're not - the pill affects everyone differently, don't make sweeping statements like that because you can't predict how anyone will react.

the booklet that comes with it explains all potential side effects - refer to that if in doubt about anything.

Most of any weight gain will be due to increased appetite, it can't actually make you lay down fat! There may be a bit of water retention, but if you stick to eating sensibly you shouldn't increase in weight.

I've been on the pill for about 4 months now and I haven't put any weight on, and hopefully I won't. But I have gone from a 36C to a 38D! And my period has gone from being 8 days of hell to 4 days of ok, so I'm not complaining!
