Should I stay on for my A-Levels?

I've been given the opportunity to stay on at my college by my parents and have already been told that there is a position for me at the college if I want to (I'm 15 and I'm doing my GCSE's this year with 2 AS'). I know my parents want me to get A-levels but I feel that it’s too expensive for them even though I will be doing my A-levels in one year so they won’t be paying what they would be if I had to do it in two years. I was just wondering if any one could help me by stating the pros and cons of staying on. Thank you  .

If you want to go to uni, it's best to stay on and do A-levels. However, you could find a job after GCSE, but I'm not sure what kind of jobs you would get.

You have to pay to do A-levels?

I'm not sure at the moment if I want to go to uni, but if I stay on and I want to I have the chance to.
My parents have to pay for my GCSE’s too. I’m at a private college so it’s expensive. Everything has to be paid for; teachers, books, paper and even the exams you take at the end of the year as well to get the qualifications  !!! My parents have said that they can find the money if I want to stay on. I just feel guilty because I want to stay on so much but it’s so much money for them to pay out.

have you ever thought about maybe going to a comprehensive or grammar school to do your A levels? I would strongly suggest going to uni, it will make your life so much easier in the long run. On the other hand, you need to be aware of student debt.

Yeah, go to a state school or college, then it'll be free

The reason I would like to stay on at my current college is that I know I can do the A-levels I would like to take and also do them in a one year course. I don't know if I can do this at another college. Also my parents like the college I am at at the moment as I get on with people and get on with my work.

You sound like an intelligent person so I would advise you to do A-Levels and then go to university. There are some good non graduate jobs available but these are generally rare and having a good degree from a reputable university under your belt will generally make your life much easier and help you to fulfill any ambitions you might eventually have.
I'd advise you to either:
(1)Go to the private one, stop worrying and work hard, thus ensuring it's money well spent.
OR:
(2)Go to an institution where you don't have to pay but remember that you'll have to be able to motivate yourself a lot more as the teaching won't be as good and some people there might not really want to learn.

Thanks Gaz031 that makes alot of sence  . I'm going to tell my parents that I would like to stay on and I'll work even harder from now on to show them that it's the right decision. Thanks again :top: .

Well maybe you can stay on at your college if your happy their and negotiate a way of paying back your parents over several years. Your parents will want the best for you and wouldnt have offered the money if they didnt mean it. Maybe paying it back in 5 years time may make you feel a bit better for staying on.

You should aim to get some a-levels as they will benefit you and dont worry too much about uni now. You can decide once you've done your alevels.

Yeah that sounds like a good idea too . I should pay them back for paying for my education. It may take longer than five years but they should get the money back as they do and will need it. Thank you frost105 for that :top: .

If your parents have spent so much money on your education already, wouldn't they like you to do A-Levels and possibly go to uni, whether you studied at private school or state school??

Does your school offer scholarships or bursaries?

My college does offer scholarships. I only found this out as the head teacher told my boyfriend that he should apply for one. There's no way I could apply for one though as it is too late to and I don't think they offer bursaries so that isn't a option really.

Ask? It can't hurt, and schools don't like to let people go...

Go to a good comprehensive. If you are a geniunely motivated and intelligent student, there is no reason why you should not achieve the same things there as you would have done at your private school. Ive got tons of friends who are at my comprehensive attaining straight A's at A-level.

I'm at a comprehensive and most people other than myself and around 5-10 others are getting Cs or below. Most of the others are usually attaining Bs. 'A' grades are rare where I go.
