Impressions of Linacre College?

I have just been offered a place at Linacre College next year, and am trying to find out more about it. Since there is no thread for Linacre in the Colleges forum, I thought I would ask here:

1) For students at Oxford, what impression do you have of Linacre? Is it out of the way, how is the food, how are the people, how are the facilities... basically, if you have anything to say at all about Linacre, I'd like to hear it.

2) Is there anyone on this forum who goes to Linacre? If so, would you mind me asking you a little more about the college, and specifically about accommodation?

Thanks!

It's on the corner of the science area, so close to lots of departments and about ten minutes' walk from the edge of the town centre. Quiet-ish location next to the University parks and the cycle path to Marston.

I went there once years ago for a pool match and the atmosphere in the bar / common room reminded me of Harris Manchester a bit; obviously the clientele is older than UG colleges. It seemed pretty friendly but I don't know much about it beyond that.

My mum is the Finance Bursar there, so i'm pretty familiar with it. It's very friendly, not the oldest/richest/biggest of Oxford colleges but it has a nice atmosphere. It's also got a really new accommodation block, must be only about a year old or so. I personally think the food is also very good for college food (well compared to my college food it is!). It's not 'out of the way', but it's not right in the centre of town either. It's right next to the University Parks, and on the road of a few of the university science departments. I think the closest college to it is Keble. I don't know how it compares to other graduate colleges as I'm only an undergrad myself so the only grad college i really know is Linacre.
Hope this helps, let me know if you want to know more  xxx

I do. Linacre is a postgraduate college, I'm going there next year.

Any idea what that one is called? The accommodation guide they sent me is pretty sparse on the detail!

I think my newb side just appeared. Apologies.

Don't know if you've already been on it, but here's the accomodation section on the website.

Went to a grad bop there which was really good - the bar\downstairs bit is really well set up for that sort of thing. The tutorial rooms smell of coffee.

I've been to quite a few lectures there. It's really nice - nice red brick as opposed to nasty red brick, right next door to the (huge) university parks, seems to have endless common rooms - t.v.'s, pool tables, some type of cafe/bar, a moose's head and etc. all of which have been fairly populated as I've gone past.
If you haven't come across it alreadly, there's also a virtual tour (360 degree views) here: http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/oxfordtour/linacrecollege/default.html , although it unusally doesn't go inside (the rest of them usually do: http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/oxfordtour/)

Thanks for all the advice, Linacre sounds great! I hear the food is good (that's what the college website claims anyway!). Good to hear about the bops, I was worried that Linacre might be a bit 'boring' in that sense what with being postgrad-only and not even having a TSR thread (honestly!) - I used to be heavily involved in running bops at my Cambridge college so this is definitely good news for me.

Does anyone know anything about Linacre's sports teams, particularly football and squash?

Football have 2 joint teams with Corpus Christi. The A's are reasonable. The B's are terrible. Absolutely dire.

Excellent, the B's for me.

Be careful about Linacre College, they are under investigation for a number of crimes and have a history of harassing and abusing students.

Speaking of abuse and harassment, it's interesting that such an abusive website comes at the same time as someone previously accused to have attacked police officers with poison was charged with harassing members of Linacre.

You seem to have a biased view of the story.. Do you work for Linacre college? Who poisons police officers? What a bizarre accusation.

If you want the facts, all of those charges were dropped before even reaching the courtroom. The college has a history of making false police reports as a means to silence their critics, and the police are currently under investigation for corruption...
