If you have it all the time, if it's the only thing that actually causes you to be ill (everytime i'm ill it's with tonsillitis).. it's extremely rare for them to do it out our age.. but i do know of a girl who had it done a few months back!

The tonsil stones don't hurt, but they do taste absolutely foul and they really stop me from enjoying food. :frown:

My tonsils are killing me atm, especially when I yawn and swallow :frown:

I doubt they'll take them out, there's really no need unless you get it all the time.

tonsilitis isn't too much of an issue- I had it back in sept 2004 (at the age of 19, docs thought it could have been caused by glandular fever).

Only if you get it in recurring bouts will the docs let you get the tonsils removed.
I had tonsillitus last week so I really feel for you :frown: for me, it was worst when I sneezed. Owwwwwww :bawling: Just cling on to the thought that it'll be loads better after 48 hours of antibiotics

I've had it three times and no-one's ever suggested a tonsillectomy. I wish they had!

I'm finally on the waiting list for a tonsillectomy: I've had recurrent bouts of tonsillitis and quinsy, which have once or twice required hospitalization.
Are you sure it's tonsillitis? I went to my doctor with similar symptoms (I had a recurring extremely sore throat, pain when eating, drinking, talking.. the sore throat also brought on headaches and lethargy). The doctor said it was probably not tonsillitis, as I and just about everyone I knew thought initially, and I ended up having a blood test for glandular fever. Sometimes they're both very similar.

I'm not 100% - the doctor will hopefully be able to tell me tomorrow - but I've got a whitey coating on my tonsils which is apparently another symptom, and I feel a bit fluey.

Only problem is, I'm on the Pill and antibiotics apparently stop it from working?

well, they make it essential to use barrier [see condoms] contraception whilst on your course - they can interfere with its workings.

What about if you're on your Pill-free week?

i used to get tonsillitis all the time. id literally have it, be on medication for two weeks and then two weeks later again. my mum got so good at recognising the symptoms my doctor gave her a massive bottle of paracetemol so we didnt have to keep going in. one time i ended up being on paracetemol for a month (that was prescribed by my doc). neway she (my doc) was really really adament that i shouldnt get them out as a) there is always a risk in the operation
b) you usually grow out of it
and c) the bug is carried around silently by other ppl who dont get the symptoms so as i was nearing the end of primary school at the time she figured id probably lose contact with the carrier in my class

I kept getting a quincy and they took my tonsils out (I was 14). It's loads better now, I've hardly had a sore throat since, so you should be persistent if you keep getting tonsilitis, it really is worth it (requires 2 weeks hiding inside to prevent infection tho)
Feel free to PM me if you want to know anything else

Most docs wont recoomend having them taken out anymore for the reasons someone else has put on here. I only get tonsillitis now when I'm really run down. This year I've already had it 4 times but my doc wont have them taken out.
