University of Birmingham- interview and offer (insurance) AAAB
Kings College London- interview and offer  (firm) A*AA
University of Liverpool- interview but withdrew once I had the other two
University of Birmingham (Biomed)- offer AAB (declined)

It is a VERY long and exhausting process but it is so worth it in the end! Focus on each stage of the application at a time and don't begin to think ahead too much too soon (although being proactive never hurt anyone  ), if you don't quite get the UKCAT/BMAT score you wanted, it doesn't matter too much if you apply strategically. As you can see, I didn't apply particularly strategically as I had KCL and Bham which are all pretty UKCAT heavy and my score wasn't the best but it turned out okay in terms of getting the interview so it can happen. In terms of decisions about uni, choose one or two aspirational but make sure you have at least two which are 'safer' (I didn't). With interviews, don't overprepare, I spent a good two weeks on my Bham one and didn't do anything else so my grades suffered for a bit, once again, don't let this be you. But the most important advice is that do NOT forget that you still have to get the grades and even though you are going through this whole process, don't neglect your school work and keep on top of everything, I know plenty of people who didn't start revising until after they had an offer and didn't end up getting the grades

Pretty lucky in that this was my first cycle of applying to GEM. My Leicester interview fell before my GEM interviews, so I think the preparation put me in good standing/helped me to approach them in a more relaxed way. Lots of interview practice would be my biggest advice - aim to come across as thoughtful and competent, and draw on your work experiences/employment.

- Really recommend Medify for UCAT - Practice is key
- I didn't end up talking about a lot of the extracurricular stuff that I did so don't worry if you don't have much. I mainly mentioned hospital volunteering and GP work experience in my personal statement and at interview.
- I also recommend the medic portal and the ISC Medical book for interviews. I worked through these and made notes for the questions which really helped.
- Look closely at the entry requirements before applying - Use your strengths

PM me if you need any advice or help with anything
I've been reading this thread for a while and I can't believe that I can finally post here.
Good luck guys!!!

Deferred?: No

GCSEs: NA
Standard Grades Int2s (Scottish applicants): NA
AS Grades: NA
A2 Prediction/Results: NA
Higher grades (Scottish applicants): NA
Previous Degree (if applicable): BSc in Biomedicine, MSc in Global Health and Development

UKCAT (if applicable): NA
BMAT (if applicable): NA
GAMSAT (if applicable): 57 (Section 1: 66, Section 2: 63, Section 3: 50) from March 2018

Work Experience/Volunteering: work experience in anesthesiology (2 weeks), cardiothoracic surgery (2 weeks) and obstetrics (2 weeks) & gynaecology (2 x 2 weeks). Only used 2 examples in my PS (1 gynaecology-oncology and 1 cardiac).

Extra-Curricular: none while applying. For my personal statement I used stuff I have done while in high school (so almost 10 years prior in my case... and it was my leadership experience as a youth councillor)

Universities applied to and decisions:
A100 Plymouth (undergraduate) - rejection no interview (missed GAMSAT cutoff by a lot)
A101 SGUL (graduate) - rejection no interview (missed GAMSAT cutoff by 2 points)
A101 Swansea (graduate) - rejection no interview (should have sat GCSE)
A100 Exeter (undergraduate) - offer after all interviews were concluded (so can safely say I did not smash it!)

Pieces of Advice
Finding a hospital placement when you have 0 contacts:
- Search the NHS website of your preferred hospital/trust and note down every consultant/PA emails you can find
- create a CV and cover letter highlighting why you want to do work experience with them/what you hope to get out of it/ when you want to apply and why it is a requirement
- email that to everyone you want to do it with (in my case I sent 100 emails with CV + cover letter, got approximately 20 responses, and only 4 positives)
- be ready to have to do an informal phone interview or have to meet them and reiterate why you want to do this
- give yourself plenty of time to do it as paperwork takes time to do
- be engaged/professional: the people who say yes to you are investing in you and invested in your success. Thank them once you finish and once you get in. Chances are they will become mentors to you down the line, get you involved in their projects/research or more generally open doors for you and advise you.

I also want to say
- I applied 2x (first time my GAMSAT was too low and I could not even get 1 interview) and I sat my GAMSAT 5 times (I am a terrible test-taker). I also had to resign from my job because I could not do it all... It took me a lot of time but I got there in the end.
- Don't fret too much on your personal statement. Check the medical school councils website, they have a PDF which sums up each university requirements. I applied to many universities which did not even read the personal statement... Don't agonise too much on it, I think the goal with the personal statement is not to have one awful which can hurt you but it is very rare to have one which can get you an offer in the bag IMHO.
- Do whatever it takes for you to perform well in the entrance exam. I am a terrible test-taker so I knew I had to spend not only the time/effort but in my case the money too. I bought the Gold Standard (which helped me a lot for section 1 and 2... I was too helpless for S3) and I gave up my job to be able to give myself maximum chances.
- Practice your interview skills !! Really good interview techniques make a lot of difference. I think it is the only reason why I got my offer. I knew that if I bombed it I would not have the strength to sit the GAMSAT a 6th time. I used the Medical Portal MMI course and although I think they tailored their stuff more to SGUL type of MMI it was still very useful to me. They also have excellent online resource if you cannot afford the class/can't come to London. I also recommend the medical school interview book.

Good luck!!
